The seventh edition of Nigerian Idol is ready to kick off and there are loads of new additions to the show.
Since it made its debut in Nigeria, The Nigerian Idol has been a platform for talent discovery and expression.  Â
Nigerian Idol 2022 (S7) starts on Sunday, February 6, 2022.
The Idol franchise has over the years produced some of the biggest Nigerian singers such as Timi Dakolo, Mercy Chinwo, and Omawumi who have gone ahead to make a name for themselves in the global music scene.  Â
When is Nigerian Idol 2022 starting?
All things being equal, Nigerian Idol 2022 (S7) starts on Sunday, February 6, 2022.
This gives a lot of time to the participants to practise as much as they can because it Nigerian Idol 2022 is coming back hotter!
Who are the Judges?
For Nigerian Idol 2021 (S6), the Judges were Seyi Shay, Obi Asika and DJ Sose. However, Nigerian Idol 2022 has Simi and DBanj as the new Judges replacing Seyi Shay and DJ Sose.
Meanwhile, Obi Asika remains a judge on Nigerian Idol 2022.
The Executive Head of Content and West Africa Channels at MultiChoice Nigeria, Busola Tejumola said the selection of the Judges was a thorough and intentional one. He said:
“We could not think of a better trio to be the seasonâs judges than Obi Asika, Dâbanj, and Simi.
The three of them combined bring decades worth of experience in the music and entertainment business, as well as individual mastery of their crafts.
We have no doubt that they will keep the viewers entertained in what will be a spectacular season!â

The new Judges of Nigerian Idol 2022 (S7) are also super pumped about judging the show. Popular singer and songwriter Simi said:
âIâve always loved the idea of being a judge and I think itâs a fun thing to do. I plan to be very honest and have fun and hopefully gain inspiration from those that come on the show.â
The returning Judge Obi Asika also expressed his excitement as he returns to Nigerian Idol 2022 (Season 7).
âI will be looking for special talents and new faces this year. Iâm also excited to work with the rest of the judges this season, and I will be very fair and real to every contestant just like I was last year.â
On his part, DBanj was extremely thrilled at the reality of being a judge on Nigerian Idol 2022. He said:
âI was out of the country when I found out that I was going to be a judge for this season of Nigerian Idol and I couldnât contain my excitement. Iâm coming in with my own strategy so viewers should expect a bang.â
Requirements for Registering for Nigerian Idol 2022
Of course, there are set rules that Nigerian Idol has laid down before you can apply for the competition. However, these rules are not stringent. Here they are:
1) You must be a Nigerian citizen
2) You must be a Nigerian Citizen living in Nigeria. Nigerians in diaspora are not allowed to participate in Nigerian Idol 2022
3) Participants who are interested in contesting in Nigerian Idol 2022 must be within 16 years of age to 30 years of age (16-30)
4) If you participated in the past editions of Nigerian Idol, then you won’t be allowed to participate in Nigrian Idol 2022. This is yo give other people the chance to participate.
5) You must have a phone number and valid email address that can be reachable at all times. This is so you can receive messages and updates from Nigerian Idol
6) You must have NIN (National Identification Number) or a Nigerian Passport. Without either means of identification, you cannot participate in Nigerian Idol 2022
7) You must upload a recorded video of yourself singing. The video must be at least thirty (30) seconds)
7) You must have a YouTube channel. This will make fiding the videos you upload easy, and problem make the Nigerian Idol team go through your past video.

How do I register for Nigerian Idol 2022 (Season 7)?
Unfortunately, Auditions for Nigerian Idol 2022 has already been done. According to Nigerian Idol, MultiChoice Nigeria announced physical auditions for Nigerian Idol season 7. The auditions were be held on Saturday, 4 December 2021, at the Colossus Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos.
The physical auditions were the last phase of the audition process for Nigerian Idol 2022 (Season 7) and commenced by 9 am at the Colossus Hotel, Ikeja.
Announcing the new season, Executive Head, Content and West Africa Channels at MultiChoice Nigeria, Busola Tejumola, said:Â
âMultiChoice remains committed to promoting and giving young music talents in Nigeria a platform to shine and actualize their dreams.
Season seven promises to be even bigger and more entertaining. So if you believe you have what it takes to be the next Nigerian Idol, be a part of the auditions starting November 14.â
The competition is only open to participants between the ages of 16 – 30Â years. Intending participants are to come along with their passport or NIN card as proof of identification.
If you auditioned on the online audition platform and were unsuccessful, you are welcome to come audition at the physical audition.
What can I win on Nigerian Idol 2022 (Season 7)
The prizes to be won keeps getting better every edition.
â At the first edition of Nigerian Idol, 26-year-old Onyekachi Elizabeth Gilbert Onwuka aka “yeka onka” won 7.5 Million Naira, a recording contract with Sony, a car and an all-expense-paid trip to South Africa.Â

Meanwhile, in this edition of Nigerian Idol, barely two weeks after announcing the return of the fan favourite reality singing competition show; Nigerian Idol,
MultiChoice Nigeria has revealed that the reward for the eventual winner will be a recording contract with a leading record label and more than 50 million Naira worth of prizes which include a cash prize and a brand new car.Â
Speaking on the prizes, Executive Officer of MultiChoice Nigeria, John Ugbe said:

1) Choose the right song

2) Train! Train! Train!
No matter how talented you are, don’t get too comfy. Adequate Preparation trumps talent. Do vocal training, find a coach, rehearse as many times as possible in a day.
This does not mean you should stress your voice out. Just makes sure there is adequate amount of preparation that goes into your performance.

No matter how aligned with your voice the chosen song is, the delivery wonât have as much impact if youâre not confident.
In fact, eh, we heard through the grapevine that our judges can identify confidence in your singing. So do your mantras, meditate, or whatever rocks your âvoiceâ. Just get your mind right and your confidence at a high, before stepping into the spotlight.
7) Have fun with it!
