Davido: Timeless Album Tracklist

We ranked Davido’s forthcoming album the most anticipated Nigerian album of 2023. Looks like we were not wrong

Davido Timeless Album Tracklist will contain his hit song “Champion Sound” featuring Focalistic, and some other hit songs and amazing features with artists like Skepta, The Cavemen, Angelique Kidjo, Fave, Focalistic and Asake.

Davido Timeless tracklist

Timeless Tracklist

Davido Timeless Tracklist also includes some artists we haven’t heard before {which may be a good chance to expose these new artists to Davido’s audience} and also share their music ability and prowess to the world. Timeless Tracklist contains collaborations with artists like Logos Olori, Dexta Daps, Morravey and Musa Keys.

One amazing thing to point out in Davido Timeless Tracklist is that it doesn’t feature American artists which would have just made the project a “something-for-the-charts” thing and not necessarily an authentic one. But it appears Davido is more focused on the authenticity of the album with Timeless Tracklist.

It appears listeners may already have their favorite song already, as some are groveling towards “No Competition” featuring Asake, saying it’s a “chokehold” bop, after a snippet of it went viral on Twitter and Instagram.

Timeless Tracklist already has some interesting songs that we can predict through the title. Songs like “E pain me”, “Godfather”, “Precision” and “Na Money” have standout titles.

Meanwhile, of all these collaborations, the most interesting  (asides the one with Asake), is the collaboration with Angelique Kidjo. I mean, who would have thought that Davido would make a song with Angelique in 2023?

Timeless Album Tracklist is also said to contain a collaboration with Asake titled “Competition“- of which we have the lyrics already {Check it here}

Timeless album tracklist davido

Davido Timeless Album Tracklist is said to contain 17 tracks like most of Davido’s album and might feature more solo singles from Davido than collaborations. Meanwhile, Davido is big on collaborations too, so we might see some interesting features in Davido Timeless Album tracklist.

Declan Rice “Odumodublvck” lyrics

Davido’s Timeless Album will be his most personal yet

In the trailer for the announcement of Davido’s Timeless Album, he can be heard stating a verse in the bible that says there is a time for everything, a time to laugh, to cry and to be silent.

2022 was a shaky year for the Nigerian-American singer/songwriter because he lost his son “Ifeanyi”, and this made him take some time off Social media to reflect on himself, heal and properly mourn the death of his beloved son.

Timeless Album by Davido will show that side of him that we have never heard before- the painful side; the lost side, the side that felt like the world was against him, and the side that everyone does not get to see regularly or has never even seen before.

“Gangs of Lagos” Cast: Let’s Meet them!

“Party no dey stop” lyrics Adekunle Gold ft Zinoleesky

Timeless Album by Davido might be his most successful yet.

In our article on the most anticipated 2023 Nigerian albums, we stated that Davido’s forthcoming album is the most anticipated 2023 Nigerian album. After the release of “Stand Strong” earlier in 2022, there were predictions that 2022 was the year we would get another Davido album.

But with some circumstances hindering this, Davido is back with his album titled “Timeless” and we are here for it.

Background

Nigerian vocalist/producer Davido blends traditional African elements with global mainstream pop for a sound that’s equal parts intriguing and infectious.

He quickly grew from club-ready early songs to charting tracks and features from big names like Nicki Minaj and Chris Brown on his 2020 album- A Better Time.

Davido was born David Adedeji Adeleke in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1992. His interest in music began while attending Oakwood University in his late teens, and he started making his own beats and investigating music production.

Timeless tracklist

Davido/02

He dropped out of school and began pursuing music full-time, relocating to Lagos, Nigeria, and releasing his debut single, “Back When,” in 2011.

The single received some attention for its mix of clubby production, high-energy vocals, and Afro-pop rhythms, and was followed shortly by second single “Dami Duro.”

Work began on his debut album, “Omo Baba Olowo”, which was released in 2012 and produced a plethora of singles.

Success came quickly for Davido, and he sated his fans with a string of new tracks released over the next several years while he was working on his sophomore album, The Baddest, which was still unreleased as of 2020.

Between 2013 and 2017, singles like “Gobe,” “Aye,” and “Pere” (among many others) piled up, sometimes featuring collaborations with bigger-name rappers like Meek Mill and Young Thug.

Between albums, Davido also inked a deal with RCA.

More standalone tracks followed until 2019, when second album A Good Time arrived, featuring guest appearances from A Boogie wit da Hoodie, Perruzi, Popcaan, Chris Brown, Summer Walker, Gunna and other stars from around the world, and did well both commercially and with critics.

Davido ft Asake lyrics “Competition”

Davido quickly followed the next year with his third effort A Better Time. The album was a similarly star-studded affair, with guest spots from Nicki Minaj, Lil Baby, Saulti Sol, and many others on Davido’s bright and catchy R&B-infused Afropop.

“A Better Time” also fared well commercially, breaking into the Billboard charts its first week of release.

Top 10 Record Labels In Nigeria 2023

TOP 10 RECORD LABELS IN NIGERIA

Nigeria’s music industry is arguably one of the best in the world. Our music stars are now releasing record breaking music, selling out world famous arenas and just being generally successful.

One of the major factors responsible for this success are record labels. Of course, now most of our A-list stars are signed to major record labels in the U.K and U.S such as RCA, Sony, Warner and the likes. But a majority of them all started their career with record labels in Nigeria.

What is a Record Label?

A record label is a company responsible for the production, distribution, marketing and promotion of music.

A record label also conducts scouting and development of artistes. They also maintain contracts with the recording artists, songwriters, producers and their managers.

The industry has evolved from what it used to be in the past.

Now, you don’t necessarily need a record label to achieve success but being in one can help accelerate your progress and get there faster, especially if you join the right one.

In this article, we would be profiling the top 10 record labels in Nigeria

1) MAVIN RECORDS

Top 10 record labels in Nigeria

This is no doubt one of the biggest record labels in Nigeria and West Africa. Mavin Records is home to some of the best young stars in Nigeria.

Mavin Records is owned by music producer and businessman Don Jazzy.

Don Jazzy formed Mavin Records on the 8th of May, 2012 after leaving the now defunct Mo’ hits records. He signed Tiwa Savage immediately, before adding producers; Altims and Baby fresh.

Since making its debut in 2012, Mavin Records have ruled the African music scene.

There is no other reason for this other than their great attention to detail in hiring personnel behind the cameras.

Mavin employs some of the most talented and hardworking artiste and repertoires, songwriters, producers and artistes. It’s basically a music hive.

Mavin also has a music academy that scouts upcoming talent, recruits them and trains them into becoming international superstars.

Some of the notable talents signed to Mavin Records are artists; Rema, Ayra Starr, Crayon, Ladipoe, Johnny Drille and recently Magixx, Boy Spyce and Bayanni. Also Producer; Andre Vibez responsible for worldwide hits such as feeling, Calm down,  Rush and Overdose etc.

This makes it one of the best record labels in Nigeria.

2) YBNL

YBNL Full meaning is Yahoo Boy No Laptop. It was founded in 2012 by legendary indigenous rapper Olamide Adedeji, who goes simply as Olamide. The label was named after his sophomore album.

Best record label In Nigeria

Back in the day, YBNL was affiliated and known for signing majorly street artists and producers like Lil Kesh and Young John but have since evolved and the label is now more diverse in the kind of artistes they sign evident with the signings of Adekunle Gold and Fireboy dml.

If there’s anything that makes YBNL a top 10 record label in Nigeria, it’s Olamide’s nose. He could sniff talent a mile away.

His ear is also one of the best in the industry too, he recently leaked Fireboy dml’s single Peru because he thought it had the potential to be an international hit even when Fireboy didn’t think so.

It is therefore not surprising that YBNL is number 2 among the top 10 record labels in Nigeria

YBNL also just signed a promotional deal with Empire. This makes signing with YBNL a lot more lucrative as it provides a faster pathway to international success.

Asake, Fireboy and Olamide himself are the artists currently signed to YBNL

3) CHOCOLATE CITY

Chocolate city is one of the oldest record labels on the list. Founded in 2005 by Audu Maikori along with Paul Okeugo and Yahaya Maikori. In 2015, Audu stepped down and M.I became the CEO.

A huge chunk of artists have been affiliated with chocolate city in one way or the other.

Top 10 record label in Nigeria

Many record labels have come and gone over the years but Chocolate City has remained standing for almost two decades due to their impeccable structure.

This is why Chocolate city is one of the best record labels in Nigeria

Chocolate city has been home to Ckay, Victoria Kimani, Ice Prince, Jesse Jagz etc. in the past. The biggest African song ever-Love Nwantiti was released under this label.

It’s currently home to Young John, Blaqbonez, Tar1q and Candy Bleakz.

4) JONZING WORLD

The Best record labels in Nigeria

Founded on March 22nd, 2019 by Charles Enebeli aka D’prince. Unknown to many, D’prince was the one who discovered Rema not Mavin Records.

Jonzing world was just starting out then and D’prince felt Mavin was more equipped to accelerate the progress of Rema, so he introduced Rema to his big brother Don Jazzy.

Rema then signed a distribution and publishing deal with Mavin although he’s still affiliated with Jonzing world.

A few years later Jonzing world signed dancehall artiste Ruger with no affiliation to Mavin Records. Ruger has gone on to be one of the most successful young artistes in Nigeria currently, and was recently nominated for the next rated Headies award which he lost narrowly to Bnxn fka buju.

Jonzing world easily takes a spot as one of the top record labels in Nigeria.

It’s safe to say, in a short time Jonzing world has established themselves as a top 10 record label in Nigeria.

Most Streamed Nigerian Artists on YouTube 2022

5) EMPAWA AFRICA

Empawa Africa was founded in November 2018 by Tosin Ajibade, an Afrobeats star and business man who goes by Mr. Eazi.

Empawa Africa is not exactly a record label per say, but they do function as one. Mr. Eazi describes it as a bank for African artistes that produces services.

When it was founded, 100 African artists from 11 African countries were picked and each one was given a fully funded music video. Eventually, only the top 2 or 3 artists are fully invested in.

Empawa Africa is definitely one of the best record labels in Nigeria

Afropop star, Joeboy and buzzing female vocalist Fave, known for the viral single Baby riddim are two of the top artistes at Empawa Africa.

6) DAVIDO MUSIC WORLDWIDE

Top record labels in Nigeria

Founded in 2016 by David Adedeji Adeleke, Afrobeats superstar Davido after leaving his previous record label, HKN music.

He started the label with two artistes, Holy Father crooner Mayorkun and rapper Dremo.

Between 2016-2021, DMW were responsible for a lot of hit songs in the Nigerian music scene. In that time, Mayorkun won 3 Headies awards including the next rated award in 2018.

Davido Music worldwide is definitely a top record label in Nigeria.

Things seem to have cooled down now with Davido taking a step back but it’s only a matter of time before this label is atop the top 10 record labels in Nigeria again.

Davido and Liya are the artists currently signed under DMW.

7) STARBOY ENTERTAINMENT

Top record label in Nigeria

Founded by Ayodeji Balogun, another Afrobeats giant, Wizkid in 2013 after leaving Banky W’s Empire Mates Entertainment. His first signings were Maleek Berry, Legendary beatz and himself.

Ayra Starr “Rush” {E dey Rush} Lyrics Meaning Explained

Profile

Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe (born 14 June 2002), known professionally as Ayra Starr, is a Nigerian singer.

Born in Cotonou, Benin, Ayra Starr began a fashion career at the age of 16 with Quove Model Management before deciding to pursue music.

Having been raised in a music-loving family, her interest in singing comes mostly from her family. At the age of 10, she sang in a high school choir and began writing songs with her brother.

She attended Les Cours Sonou University and received a BA degree in international relations and political science.

During her college years, she was often bullied by her classmates because of her age and appearance. To counter the feelings she experienced from being taunted, Ayra Starr turned to music. “I would listen to Nicki Minaj on my way to school, and I’d feel like the second Nicki Minaj.

Ayra Starr’s mother was very supportive of her musical ambitions, and always encouraged her to pursue a singing career.

After covering several songs by popular artists on Instagram, she posted her first original song on her page in December 2019.

This brought her to the attention of record executive Don Jazzy, and led to her signing to Mavin Records.

In early 2021, Ayra Starr achieved mainstream recognition with her eponymous debut extended play and its hit track “Away” which spent two consecutive weeks at number four on Nigeria’s TurnTable Top 50 and went to number 17 on  Top Triller Global, paving the way for the release of her first full-length studio album, 19 & Dangerous in August 2021.

Categorized mainly as Afropop and R&B, the album has been met with favorable critical reception.

It spawned two top forty hits in Nigeria.

The lead single “Bloody Samaritan” peaked atop the Top 50 chart, becoming the first solo song by a female artist to reach the number-one position. Starr debuted on Pandora Predictions chart, and on 28 August 2021, she ranked number two on Billboard’s Next Big Sound

With the release of her debut eponymous EP, some critics felt that her vocal technique bore a striking resemblance to Tems’ musical style. In an interview with Cool FM, Ayra Starr spoke about comparisons to Tems:

“I’m a young artist and Tems is an amazing musician, for people to compare me to such an amazing musician, it’s a compliment and I’m honoured.”

Motolani Alake, in his review of the EP for Pulse wrote that “Ayra Starr isn’t exactly a replica of Tems, but when she manipulates her vocals to stress the final syllable on words, sentences and cadences by flexing her octaves, she definitely sounds like Tems.”

Alake also opined that both artists are different and that “Tems can be more alternative while Starr is more Nigerian and more Afropop with more lamba in her soul

Although musically diverse, Ayra Starr’s sound has predominantly been categorized as Afropop and R&B. Her voice has been described in the media as “silky”, “cozy”, “delicate”, “sturdy”, “arresting” and “soulful”, with music critics noting the dynamic nature of her range and emotional delivery.

Her lyrics are a mixture of English, Pidgin English and Yoruba, often exploring contemporary topics such as love, relationship, empowerment and freedom.
