About Gangs of Lagos

In Isale Eko, Obalola was born. It would seem that his birth was to a notorious kingpin, but to a somewhat pious mother. Obalola’s father died at a young age- the contributing factor based on his involvement in the street politics of Isale Eko and wanting to rule the streets.

However, despite Iya Oba’s (Character played by Iyabo Ojo) insistence and prayers that Obalola not turn out to be his father, he only longs to be in his father’s erstwhile position, and his wishes are granted. The major contributing factor to this must have been that Obalola was literally raised on the streets, and he believed that his survival was dependent on his ability to dominate.

Now that Obalola (Character played by Tobi Bakre) is all grown up, he rules Isale Eko with terror, along with his band of loyal street fighters. It would seem Gift (Character played by Adesua Etomi-Wellington) is his sergeant and may be his love interest. A betrayal happens between one of Isale Eko’s street lords concerning Gift and now, Obalola must have revenge.

Meanwhile, when you rule people with terror, it’s only a matter of time till they turn on you and become loyal to their own interests, or someone that could serve them at the moment.

This only leads to a feud, and then a war that kills so many people. At the end of the day, a power grab ensues and only the strongest can win.

Gangs of Lagos streams on Prime Video Naija from Friday, April 7, 2023. The movie is directed by Jade Osiberu (Noted for Isoken)

How Prime Video Nigeria works
Currently, Prime Video Nigeria has over 20,000 content i.e. Original movies and TV Shows.

This means Nigerians can as well be hooked on the platform as long as they want to. There will always be content to watch even though the content may not be entirely Nollywood.

The reason for this is that Prime Video has already launched in some parts of Africa and now has over 600,000 subscribers.

Prime Video Nigeria attests that subscription costs as low as #2,300 per month after a 7 day trial. This low subscription rate is more likely to draw Nigerians to Prime Video Nigeria because it costs as low as $6.

Meanwhile, Prime Video Nigeria has already added some top Nollywood movies like “Gangs of Lagos” which is a new movie entirely. The hope is that when Gangs of Lagos is released, since it is licensed exclusively on Prime Video Nigeria and Nigerians will have no choice but to watch it on the platform since it stars Adesua Etomi and Tobi Bakre.

Also, popular filmmaker and Director Niyi Akinmolayan, has signed a multi-year multi-project deal with Prime Video Nigeria to produce several Nollywood content for the platform.

Amazon Prime Video, or simply Prime Video, is an American subscription video on-demand over-the-top streaming and rental service of Amazon offered as a standalone service or as part of Amazon’s Prime subscription.

The service debuted on September 7, 2006, as Amazon Unbox in the United States.

On September 4, 2008, the service was renamed Amazon Video on Demand.

As of August 2014 the service is no longer available for downloading purchased instant videos. On February 22, 2011, the service rebranded as Amazon Instant Video and added access to 5,000 movies and TV shows for Amazon Prime members.

On February 8, 2012, Amazon signed a deal with Viacom to add shows from MTV, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, TV Land, VH1, CMT, Spike, BET and Logo TV to Prime Instant Video.

On September 4, 2012, Amazon signed a deal with pay-TV channel Epix to feature movies on their streaming service, in a move to rival their competitor Netflix.

Additionally, in November 2013, Amazon premiered the comedies Alpha House and Betas, which are original series available exclusively online via the Prime Instant Video service.

Amazon offered the first three episodes of both series at once for free, with each subsequent episode released weekly thereafter for Prime members

The service primarily distributes films and television series produced by Amazon Studios and MGM Holdings or licensed to Amazon, as Amazon Originals, with the service also hosting content from other providers, content add-ons, live sporting events, and video rental and purchasing services.

Operating worldwide, the service may require a full Prime subscription to be accessed.

In countries such as the United States, United Kingdom, and Germany, the service can be accessed without a full Prime subscription, whereas in Australia, Canada, France, India, Turkey, and Italy, it can only be accessed through a dedicated website.

Prime Video additionally offers a content add-on service in the form of channels, called Amazon Channels, or Prime Video Channels, which allow users to subscribe to additional video subscription services from other content providers within Prime Video.

Launched on September 7, 2006, as Amazon Unbox in the United States, the service grew with an expanding library, and added the Prime Video membership upon the development of the Prime subscription.

It was then renamed as Amazon Instant Video on Demand. After acquiring the UK-based streaming and DVD-by-mail service LoveFilm in 2011.

Prime Video was added to the Prime subscription in the United Kingdom, Germany and Austria in 2014, available on a monthly subscription of £/€7.99 per month, continuing the plan of LoveFilm Instant.

The service was previously available in Norway, Denmark, and Sweden in 2012, but was discontinued in 2013.

On April 18, 2016, Amazon split Prime Video from Amazon Prime in the US for $8.99 per month.

On December 14, 2016, Prime Video launched worldwide (except for Mainland China, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Russia and Syria) expanding its reach beyond the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Austria, and Japan.

Among the new territories, the service was included with Prime in Belgium, Brazil, Canada, France, India, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Turkey and Spain, while for all other countries, it was made available for a monthly promotional price of $/€2.99 per month for the first six months and $/€5.99 per month thereafter

In some countries where Amazon Video is available and movies/television shows can be purchased or rented, Prime Video is offered on the local Amazon website (e.g.,, etc.).

Although a local Amazon website might be available, the full range of digital content services (e.g. Amazon Music, Amazon Video, Kindle Store) might not be available in that particular country (e.g.,, etc.).

In other countries where Amazon Video is unavailable and movies/television shows cannot be purchased or rented, Prime Video is offered as a standalone service on a separate website.

In Brazil, a similar Amazon Video was launched, but under the name Loja Prime Video (“Prime Video Shop”), and for renting of movies only
