Note: This is a research article written based on gathered fact.
Social media is a yardstick for a lot of things, majority of which are success, global reach, and influence.
It has been noticed that overtime, those with high social media followers must have done well in their fields, and are followed massively because their fans love them so much, that they want to keep up with their lifestyle and success.
Currently, and for a period of over three years, Yemi Alade has been the most followed woman in Nigeria. Using the three major social media platforms, here are her stats:
Instagram: 14.7 million followers (estimated)

Most celebrities with high social media following have their major following on Instagram because it is a multipurpose site. It has a wonderful interface that allows you to post beautiful pictures, and has a quite engaging comment section, though not as engaging as Twitter.
With Yemi Alade’s Instagram account, she mainly posts videos to showcase her work; which may be a new song, video or body of work. She uses it as her major promotion platform because of her wide reach on the platform.
Currently, Yemi Alade is the second most followed person on Instagram in Nigeria after Davido. It is therefore not surprising that she has quite a lot of engagement as she consistently posts videos not only of her work, but people dancing to her songs.
Facebook: 11.9 million
Like most celebrities, Alade’s Facebook account is majorly a replica of her Instagram account. It would seem that she automatically allows her Facebook account to instantly share what she posts on Instagram.
Twitter: 1 million
It is not surprising that her followers on this platform is low. Alade interacts even less with Twitter than other social media platforms because she probably finds it “stressful” and disturbing.
I mean, on Twitter, there is that person saying what he or she is not supposed to be saying, and then there are thousands of people backing them up.
In fact, she trended on Twitter in 2020 like only three times: when Patoranking posted a picture of her, when she released her “Deceive” music video and when she released pictures of her “engagement” with Patoranking
Meanwhile, despite what people say about Yemi Alade and her music, why does she have the most following as a woman in Nigeria?
1 Content
This woman knows how to create content and this is evident when in 2019, she became the first African Female to have over one million subscribers on YouTube (Now 1.8M).
She has a strong You tube presence and her You tube videos have been applauded for their creativity. Even on Instagram and other platforms, she showcases this content.

2 Simple Lifestyle
Yemi Alade has a simple lifestyle that resonates with a lot of people. She tends to focus on her work and avoids the dramatic.
If she is not working on new music, she is planning to go on tour, if she is not planning to go on tour, she is shooting music videos. She is a hardworking geek and I guess this motivates a lot of people to follow her.
3 Connections
Celebrities like Funke Akindele, Omotola Jalade, Simi, Dakore Egbuson, Nancy Isime, Tonto Dikeh, Broda Shaggi, Tacha, Siruti, to mention a few, are always seen commenting about their love for Yemi Alade, her work ethics and her music.
These connections draw the fans of her admirers to admire her too. She does knows how to connect with the right people, and this is serving her well!

4 Performance
She happens to be a great performer. In 2018, The Headies award slated a new category of award for “Best performer of the year”. She won the first category, the second and the third.

Recently, alongside several Nigerian artists, she performed at the 2021 Yam Carnival Festival in London.
Also, with the releases of her last two albums: “Woman of Steel” and “Empress”, she might soon be nominated for a Grammy Award as the Recording Academy has been recognizing her in a few of their activities.
Yemi Alade might uncontestably hold up this position for a very long time, because it seems she is always working and serving content.
About a month ago, she released her Sophomore Extended Play titled “Queen don come”, a wonderful body of work by the way.
