âSacrificeâ lyrics The Weeknd
I was born in a city
Where the winter nights donât ever sleep
So this lifeâs always with me
The ice inside my veins will never bleed
My, ooh
My, ooh
Uh, every time you try to fix me
I know youâll never find that missing piece
When you cry and say you miss me
Iâll lie and tell you that Iâll never leave
But I sacrificed (sacrificed)
Your love for more of the night (of the night)
I try to put up a fight (up a fight)
Canât tie me down (down)
I donât wanna sacrifice
For your love, I try
I donât wanna sacrifice
But I love my time
My, ooh
My, ooh
I hold you through the toughest parts
When you feel like itâs the end
âCause life is still worth living
Yeah, this life is still worth living
I can break you down and pick you up
And fuck like we are friends
But donât be catching feelings
Donât be out here catching feelings âcause
I sacrificed (sacrificed)
Your love for more of the night (of the night)
I try to put up a fight (up a fight)
Canât tie me down (down)
I donât wanna sacrifice
For your love, I try
I donât wanna sacrifice
But I love my time
I donât wanna sacrifice
For your love, I try
I donât wanna sacrifice
But I love my time
Oh, baby
I hope you know that I, I tried
Oh, baby (baby)
I hope you know I love my time, oh
I donât wanna sacrifice
I donât wanna, I try (hey)
I donât wanna sacrifice
But I love my, my time
My, ooh
My, ooh
The Weeknd âDawn Fmâ album review
Dawn FM: The Weeknd remains undefeated with introspection
âDawn FMâ has to be one of the most creative projects of the decade. It offers so much to unpack and confesses people of their feelings through explorations of their thoughts, juxtapositions of the options life has made available to them, and a reveal of how freedom in life is not based on how weâve modified life to a certain norm. With âDawn FMâ, The Weeknd sets you free of insinuations. Listen, and listen deeply.â
Abel Makkonen Tesfaye also known by his stage name âThe Weekndâ announced the release of his album âDawn Fmâ as far back as the release of the first single from the album titled âTake my Breathâ in August 2021. For several months, The Weeknd teased his fans about the projects.
The release of a trailer which revealed the tracklist even spurred more interest, as the trailer depicted that The Weeknd might be going deeper in his genre of music- Escapism, Dark Lyricism and Melancholia
The releases of The Weekndâs albums- âKiss Landâ (2013), âBeauty Behind the Madness (2015), âStarboyâ (2016) and âAfter Hoursâ (2020), saw him win Six American Music Awards, 19 Billboard Awards, 3 Grammy Awards, 15 Juno Awards and 2 MTV video musc awards. True, The Weeknd has come far and there is so much to say about âDawn Fmâ his latest album.
First, âDawn Fmâ is an âall-The Weekndâ body of work as there are few collaborations, and second, The Weeknd sends an all-signs message with this album.
âDawn Fmâ album review.
1) âDawn Fmâ
â Lyrics
Verse: The Weeknd]
This part I do alone
Iâll take my lead, Iâll take my lead on this road
And I need something (Something) to hold (To hold)
Make me believe in make-beliefs
âCause after the light, is it dark, is it dark all alone?
All alone[Interlude: Jim Carrey]

âDawn Fmâ is an intro into the album, and it establishes the whole mood for the album. Itâs funny how The Weeknd has established such comfort in his genre of music and brought people into the âsafetyâ of this music through dark lyricism.
Although it stands that âDawn Fmâ Sounds like something you are told to tune in to after an horror film, but then, there are dynamics to the song opening that renders your interest agog, and this interest is set to be deeply satisfied as you get more into the album. âDawn Fmâ is short enough to spur your excitement about âDawn Fmâ (The Album)
2) âGasolineâ
â Lyrics
Itâs 5 AM my time again
Iâve soaking up the moon, canât sleep
Itâs 5 AM my time again
Iâm calling and you know itâs me
Iâm pushing myself further
Iâm just trying to feel my heartbeat beat
I wrap my hands around your neck
You love it when I always squeezeItâs 5 AM, Iâm high again
And you can see that Iâm in pain
Iâve fallen into emptiness
I want you âcause weâre both insane
Iâm staring into the abyss
Iâm looking at myself again
Iâm dozing off to R.E.M.
Iâm trying not to lose my faithAnd I love it when you watch me sleep
You spin me âround so I can breathe
Itâs only safe for you and me
I know you wonât let me OD
And if I finally die in peace
Just wrap my body in these sheets
And pour out the gasoline
It donât mean much to meItâs 5 AM, Iâm nihilist
I know thereâs nothing after this
Obsessing over aftermaths
Apocalypse and hopelessness
The only thing I understand is zero sum of tenderness
Oh baby, please just hold me close
Make me believe thereâs more to liveAround, around, around, around we go
In this game called life we are not freeAnd I love it when you watch me sleep
You spin me âround so I can breathe
Itâs only safe for you and me (Donât let me go)
I know you wonât let me OD (Donât you let me go)
And if I finally die in peace (Oh, yeah)
Just wrap my body in these sheets
And pour out the gasoline
It donât mean much to me
âGasolineâ is a tricky song, and it seems as though as the album advances, the songs get deeper. âGasolineâ is about how the artist is in love with someone and says he finds solace in her company and âobsessing over apocalypse and aftermathsâ.
There seems to be so much directions to this song than just escapism, because it not only feels like fear and anxiety, it feels like a call to some purpose, some Essence to life. The artist questions the essence of life and goes absurdist, but the question about âGasolineâ remains:
âDoes life remain subject to our imaginations even when we donât permit it?â.
This question is almost answered when the artist confirms that if he dies as a result of his obsessions, then he truly subjected himself to his fears and hopelessness. At this point, the question is no longer about our imaginations, but that a contrast has been created to how love and romance is not enough to save one from hopelessness. However, this stands to be corrected.
3) âHow do I make you love me?â
â Lyrics
Weâre going back in time
Iâd like to see you try
Unpacking thoughts through tunnels in your mind
Iâll fix you mushroom tea
And cross the restless sea
Release yourself to escape realityIt doesnât phase you
I need a breakthrough
I only want whatâs right in front of me
Itâs quite unusual
Seeking approval
Begging for it desperately
I saidHow do I make you love me?
How do I make you fall for me?
How do I make you want me
And make it last eternally?
How do I make you love me? (Ooh ahh)
How do I make you fall for me?
How do I make you want me (Ooh ahh)
And make it last eternally?I can see the real you, girl
You donât have to hide
Forget âbout what your daddy said
Iâll teach you how to shine
And all the things you tolerated made you cold inside
But I can light you up again like embers of a fireIt doesnât phase you
I need a breakthrough
I only want whatâs right in front of me
Itâs quite unusual
Seeking approval
Begging for it desperately
I saidHow do I make you love me?
How do I make you fall for me?
How do I make you want me
And make it last eternally?
How do I make you love me? (Ooh ahh)
How do I make you fall for me?
How do I make you want me (Ooh ahh)
And make it last eternally?
The musicality of âHow Do I make you love meâ is top notch. In âHow do I make you love meâ, the singer explores differences in the lives of two people that make them seem incompatible.
Although it seems like their worlds are apart, the singer pesters his love interest by telling her that âitâs quite unusual seeking approvalâ. The problem then becomes âHow do I make you love me? How do I make you fall for me?â.

The Weeknd establishes that if he is able to bring his love interest into the light, then sheâd definitely fall in love with him. He says:
âThis is not the real you, you donât have to hide yourselfâ.
It seems like sheâs pulling back and the singer proves that he can help her discover herself, seeing that she wants to please everyone and fit into the norm expected of her. He says sheâs âbegging desperately for attentionâ.
Lyrically and musically, âHow do I make you love meâ is the best so far on the album. Although the first two songs suit the mood of the âDawn FMâ, but âHow do I make you love meâ is more experimental, more fresh.
We donât see it coming and we appreciate the surprise, with other songs, thereâs an amount of predictability, but with âHow do I make you love meâ, thereâs so much uniqueness. And the percussions towards the end of the song? Legendary!
4) âTake my breathâ
Written by: Max Martin, Oscar Thomas Holter, Ahmed Balshe, Abel Tesfaye.
â Lyrics
I saw the fire in your eyes
I saw the fire when I look into your eyes
You tell me things you wanna try (uh)
I know temptation is the devil in disguise
You risk it all to feel alive, oh, yeah
Youâre offering yourself to me like sacrifice
You said you do this all the time
Tell me you love me if I bring you to the lightItâs like a dream what she feels with me
She loves to be on the edge
Her fantasy is okay with me
Then suddenly, baby saysTake my breath away
And make it last forever, babe
Do it now or never, babe (ah)
Take my breath away
Nobody does it better, babe
Bring me close to-Want me to hold on to you tight
You pull me close, I feel the heat between your thighs (uh, say)
Youâre way too young to end your life (huh)
Girl, I donât wanna be the one who pays the priceOoh, itâs like a dream what she feels with me
She loves to be on the edge
Her fantasy is okay with me
Then suddenly, baby saysTake my breath away
And make it last forever, babe
Do it now or never, babe (ah)
Take my breath away
Nobody does it better, babe
Bring me close to heaven, babe (uh)
Take my breathOh, oh-ooh
And theyâll see me
Oh-ooh, ooh (yeah, say)
Oh-oh, oh-oh
Oh-oh, oh-oh
Oh-oh, oh-oh
Oh-ooh-ohTake my breath away (take my breath away)
And make it last forever, babe
Do it now or never, babe (ah)
Take my breath away (take my breath away)
Nobody does it better, babe
Bring me close to heaven, babeTake my breath (take my breath a-, breath away)
(Nobody)
Take my breath (take my breath a-, breath away)
Nobody does it better, babe
Bring me close to heaven, babe (uh)
Take my breath
âTake my breathâ has that dark lyricism we know of The Weeknd, but one might begin to wonder how itâs the lead single considering that itâs not an entirely unique song. âTake my Breathâ is a good enough song with nice lyrics.
The percussions and songwriting are on point, but itâs hard to say if the song can really lead an album and tell the feel of what to expect from an album such as âDawn FMâ.
Although this has not reduced the kind of expectations fans of The Weeknd have for âDawn Fmâ, it stands that âTake my Breath â might have been chosen out of many singles or was the song available when the single was released. Either ways, it is not the best song on the album.
We might want to pay attention to the Weekndâs enthusiastic delivery though. It may seem like he even offers some sort of advice to his love interest to not âTake your own lifeâ because he has to deal with the grief of losing her, thereby creating problems for him.
It doubles as a pun as The Weeknd literally tells her to take âhis breathâ instead, rather than killing herself. But even at the brink of this insinuation, âTake my Breathâ has a 5% indication of what âDawn Fmâ is about.
5) âSacrificeâ
â Lyrics
I was born in a city
Where the winter nights donât ever sleep
So this lifeâs always with me
The ice inside my veins will never bleedEvery time you try to fix me
I know youâll never find that missing piece
When you cry and say you miss me
I lie and tell you that Iâll never leaveBut I sacrifice
Your love for more of the night
I try to put up a fight
Canât tie me downI donât want to sacrifice
For your love
I try
I donât want to sacrifice
But I love my timeI hold you through the toughest parts when you feel like itâs the end
âCause life is still worth living
âCause life is still worth living
I can break you down and pick you up
And fuck like we are friends
But donât be catching feelings
Donât be out here catching feelingsâCause I sacrifice
Your love for more of the night
I try to put up a fight
Canât tie me downI donât want to sacrifice
For your love
I try
I donât want to sacrifice
But I love my timeI donât want to sacrifice
For your love
I try
I donât want to sacrifice
But I love my timeOh, baby
I hope you know that I, I tried
Oh, baby
I hope you know I love my timeI donât want to sacrifice
I donât want to
I try
I donât want to sacrifice
But I love my time
âSacrificeâ has so much âstay true to yourselfâ tune. Itâs about how the singer canât be held down by even love. He canât âSacrificeâ his true self no matter how much he has been tried to be fixed.
Heâd rather stay out in the ânightâ- which is a representation of his interests. âSacrifceâ has a didactic mood. It tells you to not sacrifice what you love doing because it seems you should, especially for something you donât have absolute interest in or are not ready to commit to.
Itâs funny how The Weeknd can sound so dark and still whip out some self-development lessons that leave you thinking how youâve been conforming to what you donât like.
6) âA tale by Quincyâ
â Lyrics
Looking back now I didnât know what it was supposed to be
And, and itâs like raising kids, man
If you werenât raised, you donât know how to raise, you know?
I just did the best that I could with them because they know fucking well I love them
But I didnât do the best I could
I didnât know what the fuck I was doing
I didnâtI will never forget watching my mother get put in a straight jacket
And taken out of my home when I was only seven years old
She was diagnosed with Dementia praecox and put in a mental institution
Leaving my daddy alone with me and my little brother LloydI later had an evil stepmother who further cemented the idea that I didnât need a mother
Growing up without one had long lasting impressions I didnât fully understand until much later in life
It bled into my relationships with family and those I had become romantically involved withWhenever I got too close to a woman I would cut her off
Part of that was vindictive and partially based on fear, but it was also totally subconscious
Looking back is a bitch, isnât it?
Quincy tells a story about how disconnected he felt because he didnât grow up with a motherâs guidance and this left him vindictive and affected the kind of relationships he had with people.
âA tale by Quincyâ remains undefeated in exploring the kind of struggles people go through in life that makes them fall short of certain qualities that would have improved them, or those around them.

Although it seems more like Quincyâs tale is from the perspective of a Black Man growing up with so many contributory race problems, the issues remain as valid and universal as possible.
7) âOut of Timeâ
â Lyrics
The last few months Iâve been working on me, baby
Thereâs so much trauma in my life
Iâve been so cold to the ones who loved me, baby
I look back now and I realizeAnd I remember when I held you
You begged me with your drowning eyes to stay
And I regret I didnât tell you
Now I canât keep you from loving him
You made up your mindSay I love you, girl, but Iâm out of time
Say Iâm there for you but Iâm out of time
Say that Iâll care for you but Iâm out of time
Said Iâm too late to make you mine, out of timeIf he mess up just a little
Baby, you know my line
If you donât trust him a little
Then come right back, girl, come right back
Gimme one chance, just a little
Baby, Iâll treat you right
And Iâll love you like I shouldâve loved you all the timeAnd I remember when I held you (Held you, baby)
You begged me with your drowning eyes to stay (Never again, baby)
And I regret I didnât tell you
Now I canât keep you from loving him
You made up your mindSay I love you, girl, but Iâm out of time
Say Iâm there for you but Iâm out of time
Say that Iâll care for you but Iâm out of time
Said Iâm too late to make you mine, out of timeOoh singing (Out of time)
Said I had you to myself
But Iâm (Out of time)
Say that Iâll care for you but Iâm out of time
But Iâm too late to make you mine, out of time(Out of time)
(Out of time)Donât you dare touch that dial
Because like the song says, you are out of time
Youâre almost there, but donât panicThereâs still more music to come
Before youâre completely engulfed in the blissful embrace of that little light you see in the distance
Soon youâll be healed, forgiven and refreshed
Free from all trauma, pain, guilt, and shame
You may even forget your own name
But before you dwell in that house forever
Hereâs thirty minutes of easy listening to some slow tracks
On 103.5 Dawn FM
âOut of Timeâ establishes that the singer cannot trust himself enough to falling love with someone because heâs so divided with himself and canât requite anyoneâs love.
âSay I love you but Iâm out of timeâ.
It presents a situation of having his other divided part take over the relationship, but it doesnât always work out that way because his other divided part takes over and makes him âOut of Timeâ.
He has so much to give but there is no more chance, and even if he had other chances, these chances stand the chance of getting ruined too because he will still be âOut of Timeâ
Towards the end of the song, we get a sneek peek into what the whole album seeks to achieve, to free you from guilt, depression, sickness and fear. It stands that âDawn Fmâ wants you to listen and cleanse you of all that seem irregularities to you
8) âHere we goâŠagainâ ft Tyler the creator
â Lyrics
Strike a pose with my kinfolk
Front page of the billboards
Suit and tie and cigar smokes
Macallan shots till it burn throats
We still celebratinâ SuperbowlCatalogue lookinâ legendary
Ring froze like itâs February
XO, thatâs a mercenary
A quarter bill on an off year
Used to sing on lofts
But now we cruising on a yacht, we clear, yeahYeah, said you wanted your boyfriend jealous with a couple pics
And you didnât expect to fall for me once you got this dickThe city dark, city dangerous
Your girlfriendâs tryna pair you with somebody more famous
But instead you ended up with someone so basic
Faceless
Someone to take your pictures and frame itAnd my new girl, she a movie star
My new girl, she a movie star
I loved her right, make her scream like Neve Campbell
But I make her laugh, swear it cures my depressing thoughtsâCause baby girl, she a movie star
Baby girl, she a movie star
I told myself that Iâd never fall
But here we go againOoh
Here we go again
Lifeâs a dream
âCause itâs never what it seems
But youâd rather love and lost with tears
Than never love at all
So here we go againAlthough this love is strong to me
Some things can change, go wrong with me
We donât know how itâs gonna be
Forever is too long to meWe donât need the government involved because we like to touch
We donât need no damn religion tellinâ us that we in love
But if we did crush down the road
Spendinâ lawyer fees up
Pen and pack gonâ save my ass if these feelings freeze up
You gonâ sign this prenup
You gonâ sign this prenup
You gonâ sign this prenup
You gonâ sign this prenupOoh
Here we go again
Lifeâs a dream
âCause itâs never what it seems
But youâd rather love and lost with tears
Than never love at all
So here we go againThe number one station to free your soul
Dawn 103.5
Itâs funny how The Weeknd descends from talking about his superstar life and achievements into how people get unpleasant âmodifiedâ love while trying to get someone famous but actually getting someone âfacelessâ or âBasicâ.
âHere we go againâ tells a story of how the singer falls in love again despite ruling out the probabilities. Although it seems like she is more in love with him than he is with her. Tyler says âyou gon sign this prenupâ to make her assure she wonât break his heart or do something that will mess everything up.
In âDawn Fmâ, The Weeknd attempts to juxtapose the effect of love- whether it can really free you, and whether itâs something you should try out based on your feelings. Meanwhile, he questions whether feelings are actually enough to satisfy love.
9) âIs there someone elseâ
â Lyrics
I know that youâre hiding something from me
Thatâs been close to your heart
And I felt it creeping up everyday
Baby, right from the start
I know that look you give when weâre fighting
Weâre fighting
âCause I used to be the one who was lying, oh lyingOh, is there someone else or not?
âCause I wanna keep you close
I donât wanna lose my spot
âCause I need to know
If youâre hurting him, or youâre hurting me
If I ainât with you, I donât wanna be
Is there someone else or not?
Ooh, or notI donât deserve someone loyal to me
Donât you think I see
And I donât want to be a prisoner to who I used to be
I swear I changed my ways for the better, the better
âCause I wanna be with you forever, foreverOh, is there someone else or not?
âCause I wanna keep you close
I donât wanna lose my spot
âCause I need to know
If youâre hurting him, or youâre hurting me
If I ainât with you, I donât wanna be
Is there someone else or not?
Ooh, or not
âI donât want to be a prisoner to who I used to beâ⊠As the album progresses, there seems to be a development in the âlifeâ of the singer in terms of ideas and ideologies. At the beginning of âDawn FMâ, the singer does not care entirely about love because it seems like itâs not the way to his freedom, heâd rather obsess over âhopelessness and apocalypseâ.
But now, he wants to âchange for betterâ, he asks if there is âsomeone elseâ in his loverâs life. He seems so intentional about love because it makes him sound so invested, so changed that he asks continually: âis there someone else or notâ.
âIs there someone elseâ shows inclination towards love as the way out, as the key to freedom, a key to exploring his feelings.
10) âStarry Eyesâ
â Lyrics
I only met you in my dreams before
When I was young and alone in the world
You were there when I needed someone
To call my girl
And now youâre my reality
And I wanna feel you close
But youâre defeated, baby
Broken, hurtinâ, sufferinâ from a shattered soul
Oh-whoa, a shattered soul, ohLet me be there, let me be there for your heart
Let me be there, I can be there until youâre whole
You werenât touched by a man in so long
âCause the last time it was way too strong
Let me be there, let me be there for your heartLet me love you, let me love you like you need
And Iâll make it, make it my responsibility
Iâll be there every step of the way
Iâll get you back on your feet
Let me love you, let me love you like you needAnd you can kick me, kick me to the curb
Itâs okay, babe, I promise that I felt worse
Back then I was starry eyed
And now Iâm so cynical
Baby, break me, kick me to the curb, oh
The development is absolutely undeniable, in âStarry Eyesâ, we are shocked to hear the singer volunteering to be hurt, offering to âbe thereâ, to love the girl because she is so hurt. Apparently, the greatest guess is that she may be a victim of rape. He says:
âKick me to the curbâ, âLet me love youâ.
Read: The best platforms to promote your music for free and still get paid
This shows outright development, because so far, the singer has been so intentional about not hurting himself, staying alone and not trusting enough in love. But with âStarry Eyesâ, itâs different.
He brings out a side of him that is willing to trust, willing to love, willing to get hurt by others. This side, is the singerâs way of saying heâs definitely staying true to himself and not holding back any part of him that wants to express love.
11) âEvery angel is terrifyingâ
â Lyrics
Who, if I cried out, would hear me among the angelsâ order?
Even if they pressed me against their heart, Iâd be consumed
For beauty is the terror we endure, while we stand and wonder, weâre annihilated
Every angel is terrifyingIntense, graphic, sexy, euphoric

The creativity on âDawn Fmâ is entirely mind-blowing. Like any other Fm station, thereâs an advertisement.
Although we think âEvery Angel is terrifyingâ is like a poetic rendition of a lady, it speaks to no one in particular. Itâs supposed to be us, a representation of us. âEvery angel is terrifyingâ expresses beauty as art, and art as beauty.
12) âDonât Break My Heartâ
â Lyrics
(Iâm paralyzed)
(Letâs go)I see you drowning in the purple lights
Diamonds shining bright
I see every ice on you
You snatch my soul, Iâm crucified
I feel paralyzed
Iâm so mesmerized by you (By you)But I know youâre right for me, ecstasy
I keep coming back for more
I think that you would die for me, destiny
And this time I know for sureJust donât break my heart (Donât break my heart)
Donât let me down, please
Donât you break my heart (Donât break my heart)
I donât know if I can take it anymoreTake it anymore, take it anymore
I canât take another heart break or Iâll end it all
And the girl I used to love
We broke up in the club
And I almost died in the discothequeAnd now, I know she wasnât right for me, enemy
I kept coming back for more
Iâd rather you would die for me, destiny
And this time I know for sureJust donât break my heart (Donât break my heart)
Donât let me down, please
Donât you break my heart (Donât break my heart)I donât know if I can take it anymore
Donât break my heart (Donât you, donât you)
Iâm falling apart already
Donât you break my heart (Donât you, donât you)
I donât know if I can take it anymoreI believe the liquorâs talking
I just need the room to stop
And I could be the one you want
Just as long as you donât break my heart(And I realize when I kissed your neck)
(That the room is hot)
(I can taste your sweat)
(Itâs just you and I in the discotheque)
But donât you worryJust donât break my heart (Donât break my heart)
Donât let me down, please
Donât you break my heart (Donât break my heart)I donât know if I can take it anymore
Donât break my heart (Donât you, donât you)
Iâm falling apart already
Donât you break my heart (Donât you, donât you)
I donât know if I can take it anymore
âDonât break my heartâ expresses a transition weâve seen coming. The singer already recognizes his feelings and canât hold them back. He now begs her not to âbreak his heartâ. âDonât break my heartâ begins as basic as any other love song, but it quickly crescendos into a setting that takes over our imagination.
We are brought into the discotheque and we try to see them holding each other, but there is so much that The Weeknd is not going on this song. We feel the transition, but the impact is not as huge as we would have loved it to be.
13) âI heard you are marriedâ ft. Lil Wayne
â Lyrics
The way you hypnotized me, I could tell
Youâve been in control
You manifested this, but girl, I blame myself
Things I shouldâve known
The whispers that I hear
Are blowing through my ears
These words I need to hear from you
And I know this is a fling
But youâre hiding someoneâs ring
It hurts to think Iâm sharing youOoh, I heard youâre married, girl
I knew that this was too good to be true
Ooh, I heard youâre married girl, oh, oh, ohIf you donât love him (Oh no)
Then do yourself a favor and just leave him
Your number in my phone, Iâm gonâ delete it
Girl, Iâm way too grown for that deceiving
âCause I donât playCanât be your side bitch
That shit ainât fly bitch
Canât be your pilot
Canât be your private
Make me your obviousIf I ainât your husband, I canât be your hybrid
I heard youâre married
I bet he treats you like Virgin Mary
You like it dirty and Iâm Dirty HarryI thought we were some love birds, canaries
Bird to Larry
But I canât fuck with you
You put my love on the line and then hang up on youThatâs a long kiss goodbye, I gotta tongue kiss you
And when Doves cry we ainât got enough tissue
Iâm still in love with you
Where the love at?
You walk down the aisle, I can make you run back
Like fuck that, where the love at?
Tell hubby Iâll kill him, no hub capWhoa, oh, I heard youâre married, girl (Married, girl)
I knew that this was too good to be true
Oh, I heard youâre married, girl, oh, oh, oh
And I hate it (I hate it)
Oh, I heard youâre married, girl (Married, girl)
The way you had me wrapped around your fingertip
Oh, I heard youâre married, girl, oh, oh, ohI canât be with you
No, I canât be with you
Youâre too deceiving, girl, oh
I canât be with you
No, I canât be with you
Youâre too deceiving, girl, ooh
I canât be with youNo, I canât be with you
Youâre too deceiving, girl, oh
I canât be with you
No, I canât be with you
Youâre too deceiving, girl, oh
All this while, the singer seems to have been singing about the same person, and now the bombshell is that he heard sheâs married. He says âI knew this was too good to be trueâ. Now, we know what orchestrated this transition.
We know his development has been altered, not stopped, and that the cause of this alteration is so deep that it creates a lifelong effect. He says
âI canât be with youâŠyou are too deceiving..girlâ.

Now we know ,love is not the answer to his freedom, the lady breaks his heart even after pleading to her not to. It doesnât matter how much space he has given to love, that space is now taken up by hate and disappointments and we canât help but hope he fights it, but this hope is a grain of sand, itâs as intangible as the feelings he tried to hold on to.
14) âLess than Zeroâ
â Lyrics
Remember I was your hero, yeah
Iâd wear your heart like a symbol
I couldnât save you from my darkest truth of allI know
Iâll always be less than zero
Oh yeah
You tried your best with me, I know
I couldnât face you with my darkest truth of all
OhâCause I canât get it out of my head
No, I canât shake this feeling that crawls in my bed
I try to hide it but I know you know me
I try to fight it but Iâd rather be free
OhOh yeah
Can we meet in the middle?
Oh yeah
âCause you were just like me before
Now youâd rather leave me
Than to watch me die in your armsBut I canât get it out of my head
No, I canât shake this feeling that crawls in my bed
I try to hide it but I know you know me
I try to fight it but Iâd rather be free
OhI canât get it out of my head
No, I canât shake this feeling that crawls in my bed
I try to hide it but I know you know me
I try to fight it but Iâd rather be freeYeah
Iâll always be less than zero
You tried your best with me, I know
âLess than Zeroâ comes with an amount of resignation, that the singer has so many flaws that his lover cannot keep up with. This is another way he says he is signing out of the whole love affair and love thoughts which âI canât get out of my headâ.
He said, âI tried to fight it but Iâd rather be freeâ. He knows now that his freedom is not hinged on love, and that the reverse is the case. At this point in his life, his freedom comes from happiness, and in his quest to be happy, love doesnât come handy.
15) âPhantom Regret by Jimâ
â Lyrics
Youâre tuned to Dawn FM
The middle of nowhere on your dial
So sit back and unpack
You may be here awhile
Now that all future plans have been postponed
And itâs time to look back on the things you thought you ownedDo you remember them well?
Were you high or just stoned?
And how many grudges did you take to your grave?
When you werenât liked or followed, how did you behave?
Was it often a dissonant chord you were strumming?
Were you ever in tune with the song life was humming? If painâs living on when your bodyâs long gone
And your phantom regret hasnât let it go yet
You may not have died in the way that you mustAll specters are haunted by their own lack of trust
When youâre all out of time, thereâs nothing but space
No hunting, no gathering
No nations, no race
And Heaven is closer than those tears on your face
When the purple rain falls
Weâre all bathed in its graceHeavenâs for those who let go of regret
And you have to wait here when youâre not all there yet
But you could be there by the end of this song
Where The Weekndâs so good and he plays all week long
Bang a gong, get it onAnd if your broken heartâs heavy when you step on the scale
Youâll be lighter than air when they pull back the veil
Consider the flowers, they donât try to look right
They just open their petals and turn to the lightAre you listening real close?
Heavenâs not that, itâs this
Itâs the depth of this moment
We donât reach for bliss
God knows life is chaos
But He made one thing true
You gotta unwind your mind
Train your soul to align
And dance till you find that divine boogalooIn other words
You gotta be Heaven to see Heaven
May peace be with you
âPhantom Regretâ makes âDawn FMâ end with a bang. A meditative bang. It seems like The Weeknd pierced our soul to know our thoughts, our feelings, the things we didnât get right, the things we wished people knew about us, and the attention we wished we got. The Weeknd says â Heaven is for those without regretsâ which is actually true contextually.
âPhantom Regretâ is introspective enough to tell listeners that âFlowers donât try to look rightâ. They stay true to themselves enough no matter their shape, their colour or structure, and thatâs how we should be, staying true to ourselves. Staying true to ourselves is what gives us freedom.
âDawn FMâ has to be one of the most creative project of the decade. Listen, and listen deeplyâ
