Bayanni, The EP

The amazing thing is that Family seals Bayanni as a responsible person and this serves as a good EP Opener because it will encourage people to listen to the EP as many times as possible. Also, this EP Opener makes us see that Bayanni is a fresh voice.

True, he sounds like Boy Spyce vocally and lyrically, but he is still distinct in his own way.

Also, Family sounds like a hit record if it is made a social media trend.

The second track, Body, is meant to serve as the hit single of this EP, (possibly). But with the dancehall influence and catchy lyrics of Body, it still doesn’t sound like what should be a hit. But it could be a hit because of the catchy chorus.

Meanwhile, Family beats Body lyrically and musically as a record. The lyrics are far too common and it sounds like what we have heard a thousand times over by every male artist in the Nigerian music industry.

Ta Ta Ta sounds like what could be the hit song of Bayanni EP. There is a sprinkle of Love Nwantiti magic on this song that makes it sound like what people could get hooked on.

Especially when Bayanni starts with “I give her like Ta Ta Ta”. Ta Ta Ta is the best song so far and it makes this EP sound wholesome. It should be promoted as a single off this album. It would really do well on streaming platforms and set Bayanni up as a breakout star.

Kala is a cool record, and it has that street afrobeats vibe that people love listening to now. It doesn’t sound bad as the EP closer and it almost beats Body on this EP. The chorus is really good too.

Bayanni EP shows that Bayanni has a fresh voice that screams a lot of talent to yet unlock. But it sounds like Bayanni would need to evolve and discover his sound based on his amazing tunes so he doesn’t get undistinguishable among the plethora of upcoming Nigerian artists.

Lifesize Teddy Biography: Meet Mavin’s Latest Signee

Lifesize Teddy Biography: Meet Mavin’s Latest Signee

Who is Lifesize Teddy? let’s meet Mavin’s Latest signee!

Mavin Records, the biggest music powerhouse in Nigeria, has signed another artist to their roster and it is none other than Lifesize Teddy.

Lifesize Teddy becomes the latest addition after artists like Boy Spyce and Bayanni who were signed within the last two years

About Lifesize Teddy: Biography

Banigo Apiafi Treasure, whose stage name is Lifesize Teddy is a songwriter, poet, singer and rapper. She sings and write raps. She combines both of these genres in her songs. Her lyrics are influenced by the way she uses words as a poet and her raps are smooth and deep.

She started rapping at the age of 12. She grew up in Bonny Island, Rivers State

While unveiling her, Don Jazzy, the CEO of Mavin Records said:

“Unveiling a new artist is a reminder of how an artist have let themselves go through the laid down process of the Mavin academy, the testament of our faith in them and the coming together of our hardwork.

With the power vested in me by the Supreme Mavin Dynasty it’s my pleasure to introduce you to Mavin’s latest signee. Rapper, poet, singer and songwriter Lifesize Teddy. Please follow and welcome Lifesize Teddy”

Lifesize Teddy Ep review

Air” sounds like a well-made track. The song makes us recognise Lifesize Teddy’s vocal difference. She has quite different vocals than we are used to hearing from female artists in Nigeria- and the fact that she is a rapper might have contributed to this.

She has quite the vocal strength. Her vocal dexterity is admirable and the rap she did on “Air” is a decent one. Also, great work on the chorus. Air might not enjoy the most popularity on this EP because of its genre.

Hypnotic” is that record. It sounds as though Lifesize Teddy took her time to make the song and intended to make it a hit track. Sure, the chorus is catchy and amazing, and infact, it reminds us of Amaarae’s “Sad Girls Luv Money”. The song arrangement and production of this track is overwhelming, but not in a bad way.

Lifesize teddy biography

The way Lifesize Teddy eases into the chorus after the overwhelming verses is commendable. Her rap verse on this track is the most suitable so far on the EP because it matches the song energy. The delivery on this track is also amazing and it’s good that she ended the song with the chorus. Hopefully, the song becomes a favourite among listeners.

While “Hypnotic” sounds like the song that was made to be an intentional hit, “Butterflies” is the song Nigerians will find more relatable and might even become their favourite. It will enjoy a lot of popularity among them, and might even be something for the TikTok kids. It’s obviously not the best song on Lifesize Teddy Ep- because of its corny lyrics, but its simplicity will make it easy to embrace by listeners.

John Wick” is a cool record, and sounds like that style of music that Lifesize Teddy loves singing and is passionate to sing because her delivery sounds more high on it than it did on “Butterflies”.

While the song does not match the title (although she mentions “John Wick” at the end of the chorus), and yes, we understand the intended correlation. Lifesize Teddy makes an incredible run on this song and the fact that it is a danceable track makes it even more of a bop.

What Lifesize Teddy did on “Prophetic” is applaudable. First, she does not lower down on her delivery and songwriting on this track because it is a “grateful-themed” track that must end a project-like most Nigerian artists do with their albums. Prophecy still contains some deep-though lyricism that makes it even more of a solid EP closer. Kudos to Lifesize Teddy on the closing track.

Lifesize Teddy “LFT” EP Review

Mavin might have groomed Lifesize Teddy, but she is possessed with so much talent that training is obviously not the sole reason for. The fact that she is actually a good singer and a smooth rapper makes her the whole package deal. Nigeria hasn’t had a solid female rapper in a while, and Lifesize Teddy will fill that need.

For a debut EP, her project is quite a noteworthy one, with nods on her deep-thought lyrics and vocal arrangement.

In an interview with Sunday Punch, Don Jazzy addressed D’banj’s departure from Mo Hits, saying, “We were working together and all was going on well. It got to a point where I looked at the situation and we both decided that it was not working and we had to move on”. Don Jazzy alluded to being hesitant of a name change.

According to BellaNaija, the term “Mavin” describes someone who is gifted and skilled in any field.

Upon establishing the rebranded record label, Don Jazzy said he sees Mavin Records being the power house of music in Africa in the shortest possible time.

In March 2019, he also announced the signing of Rema to Mavin.

The next day, the record label released the collaborative single “All is in Order”.

On 21 January 2021, the label unveiled the signing of Ayra Starr an 18-year-old female afropop singer.

In 2004, Don Jazzy collaborated with D’Banj to form Mo’ Hits Records. In the next two years, Don Jazzy produced the albums No Long Thing and Rundown/Funk You Up. Around this time, Don Jazzy developed a recognisable introduction, “It’s Don Jazzy Again!”

On 7 May 2012, Don Jazzy announced a new record label, Mavin Records. He said, “I see Mavin Records being the power house of music in Africa in the shortest possible time.

“On 8 May 2012, he released an album featuring the artists signed to his label.

The songs on the album included: “Amarachi”, “Forever”, “Oma Ga”, “Take Banana and Chocolate”, “YOLO” and the anthem “I’m a MAVIN”. Mavin records signed the vocalist, Tiwa Savage. Don Jazzy built a social network platform called “Marvin League” to complement and market his label.

In March 2012, Don Jazzy and D’Banj confirmed their breakup citing artistic differences.

In 2000, Jazzy’s uncle invited him to play the drums for a local church in London and that was his first visit to London.

Don Jazzy gained employment at McDonald’s as a security guard. He continued his interest in music, associating with Solek, JJC Skillz, Kas, Jesse Jagz, The 419 Squad and D’Banj.

Boy Spyce’s love for music started when he was just nine years old and he used to watch his older stepbrother who was a musician compose and write songs with his band members.

boy spyce biography

Boy Spyce

This process of creating music captivated him and he fell in love with song writing. He started writing songs and showing them to his brother who encouraged him to continue.

In secondary school, his friends pushed him to perform one day in front of the whole school with a capacity of about two thousand students.

Boy spyce says this was where the journey really began as he gained confidence and realized he wanted to do music as a career.

After secondary school, he started dropping a lot of covers and freestyles of different super star artists in Nigeria on social media.

{Review}: Omah Lay’s “Boy Alone” album shares his pain, meanwhile…

What is BIG BROTHER NAIJA?

If you are new to the party and you don’t know what BB Naija is, then keep on reading.

BB Naija is a Nigerian reality competition television series based on the Big Brother television franchise which originally aired in the Netherlands.

It has gone on to become one of the biggest and most followed reality TV show in Nigeria and Africa since it first aired in 2006. Since then, there have been six seasons aired.

The show involves a number of contestants called ‘housemates’ chosen by big brother who live together in an large house that is isolated from the rest of the world for a duration that is usually between 70-100 days.

This is after they’ve auditioned for BB Naija. These housemates are cut off from their friends and family and their electronic gadgets. Their activities are constantly monitored by cameras placed all over the big brother mansion and broadcast live to the audience.

They are not left to wander aimlessly though, a faceless male domineering voice whose name is big brother or simply ‘biggie’ guides the housemates through their activities and tasks for each day throughout the housemates stay in the house.

Once in the house, the housemates have to come up with different strategies on how to win the fans love and remain in the house for as long as possible.

Every Monday, there is a live nomination show where the housemates nominate one another for possible eviction. The housemates with the highest number of votes are put up for eviction and then the voting lines open for the fans to vote who’d they would like to see remain in the house.

The housemates with the least votes are then evicted from the big brother house during the live eviction show on Sundays.

It should be noted that this nomination and eviction style varies depending on what the producers of the show have in mind.

The housemates spend most of the week completing tasks and arena games given to them by biggie.

One of which is the weekly wager task; this is a task where the housemates bet a percentage of their wager- food, drinks, snacks and other things needed to survive in the house whilst trying to complete the task given to them by biggie.

If they complete the task successfully, then they win the percentage of the wager they bet, if not, they lose the percentage they bet.

Another is the head of house game, the housemates compete amongst themselves in game of chance and the winner gets proclaimed the head of house.

The HOH gets a separate room equipped with amenities not available to the rest of the house.

Most times the head of house is usually safe from eviction for the duration of his/her reign. He or She also acts as a direct link between the housemates and big brother.

Other tasks are also organized by brand sponsors in the course of the week. This is usually a good time for the housemates to win some cash for themselves. And at least avoid going home empty handed.

The weekend usually leads up to fun and parties. The Saturday night party is always looked forward to by the housemates as it serves as an avenue to de-stress after what might have been a tough week.

There’s a lot of booze available during the parties, and housemates take pleasure in whipping up different cocktails and turning up to the best of African songs being played by the DJ invited for the week. Impeccable fashion is also always on display, as each week there is a different theme for the party and each housemate strive to look their best.

They also get sent fashion pieces from brands sponsoring the show.

The diary session is the time set aside for each housemate to have private conversations with biggie. He gets to ask them about their day and their activities in the house. It’s also when in the diary room the housemates make nominations.

Sometimes celebrity guests are brought from outside the house to have chats with the housemates on topics such as how to handle fame, getting the right manager etc.

Although these visits have become limited in recent seasons due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Biggie’s house is always full of twists and turns, it’s the thrill of these that keep fans glued to their TV sets for days.

You can never really predict what biggie does next whether it be bringing in new housemates weeks after the original ones had entered the house or planting fake housemates in the house.

On the final day, the housemate with the highest votes emerges the winner and takes home the grand prize which was about 90 million naira worth of prizes last year. There’s no consolation prize for the runner up.

WHY PEOPLE GO FOR BIG BROTHER

The thrill and excitement of being in big brother’s house appeals to many young people, many people just want to audition for BB Naija into the BB Naija house and have fun and meet new people, according to them if they end up winning the prize money, it’s just a plus.

A shot at fame and stardom; BB Naija has such a huge following that no matter how long you stay in the house, you are sure to become very famous, at least on social media.

To advance in career; since big brother is not only watched by normal fans but by brands, entertainment companies etc. people who make it into big brother’s house use it as a platform to showcase their talents. Some of the biggest stars in the Nigerian entertainment industry came from big brother e.g. Bisola Aiyeola and Erica Nlewedim in the movie industry and Laycon in the music industry.

Money; this is usually no 1 on everyone’s list. The Big Brother Naija prize money is very large and in a country like Nigeria where things aren’t so smooth, no wants to pass up on a chance to win a life changing sum of money.

Love; believe it or not people come into the Big Brother Naija house to find love, in every edition there have been really strong couples who went on to date outside the house and a pair of them actually got married and have kids now.

His lawyer, Stanley Alieke, noted that the company used his registered trademark ‘Something hooge’ without his(Sabinus) consent.

He noted that,

the slogan was trademarked on the 26th of November 2021 with the file number: NG/TM/O/2021/48316. 10. On this note, we make the demand for the payment of the sum of Five Hundred Million Naira (N500m) as compensation for the unauthorized use of the intellectual property belonging to our client.

“And another five hundred million Naira for damages for the trauma; emotional, physical, psychological, and mental trauma our client has suffered for the Trademark theft and infringement of his intellectual property rights.”

In the same vein, he sued UAC Foods makers of Gala with N100Million for using his cartoon-like image in an advert without his permission.

The notice dated 25th, May by his lawyer,Stanley Alieke, reads,

“Your company UAC Food Ltd. has been using the brand picture and other intellectual properties of Sabinus to make adverts for your Gala sausage roll without the consent or authorization of our clients.

“You made a post on your verified Instagram handle (gala sausage roll), on the 23rd of May, 2022 with the picture of our client. The post which was a cartoon of our client was captioned ‘the way I calculate everything in my life’.

“We demand that you pay our client the sum of one hundred million Naira (N100m) for the use of the picture which is the average fee our client charges for his picture to be used for adverts and promotions.”

However, Emeeyene Henry Esq., an Intellectual Property Rights consultant, argued that the skit maker may not win an infringement case against Peak Milk and Gala.

Esq Henry noted that truly Oga Sabinus registered the Trademark for the words ”Something Hooge”, but the phrase was registered in Class 36, in the class for Financial Services and Real Estate.”

Furthermore, the lawyer added that the company, Peak Milk, the skit maker threatened to sue is not a real estate company. He may not be able to fully convince the court how companies that are not into real estate has violated his right.

Also, she explained that a cartoon character that was adopted by UAC,food makers of Gala cannot be proven to be his real picture.

In her words,

“Making a caricature of a person and using same is an exception to Copyright Infringement under Fair Use. It is called the Parody or Pastiche rule of exception.

“In the light of the above, Sabinus cannot claim any Copyright Infringement as the Law allows the use of Parody or carricature as exceptions to copyright Infringement.”
