We rise: The Davido Story– Davido’s documentary premiers
If anything, international superstar- Davido, has a lot to be proud of. He is one of the most streamed African artists, he has achieved massive success in his music career and has a huge fanbase.
But this is not the only thing Davido is celebrating in his latest documentary titled “We rise: The Davido story”.
Origin
“We rise: The Davido story” is a joint production collaboration between Nigeria Entertainment Today (Net NG) and ID Africa.
“We rise: The Davido” is an exhaustive documentary about how Davido’s passion for singing brought about his consequential success. As a teenager, he always loved singing and writing songs. He even formed a music group with a group of boys.
Speaking on Davido’s documentary, Nigerian Entertainment Today said:
Davido’s life of fame, stardom, success, has also been marked by grief, loss, and controversy. His selfless donation of over ₦250 million to orphanages in Nigeria was another evidence that he truly lives by his mantra, ‘we rise by lifting others’.
‘We Rise: The Davido Story’, a Netng documentary premieres on January 15, 2022, only on thenet.ng/davido.
It’s the story of his rise and how he’s lifting others as well.

“We rise: The Davido story” also focuses on his struggles with his father who didn’t want him to do music and how Davido insisted on doing it anyway.
The documentary also featured his 29th birthday for which he raised funds. The fundraising trended on social media for a long period of time.
Speaking on the collaboration, Femi Falodun– The CEO of ID Africa said:
“At ID Africa, our goal is to use digital media for capturing and sharing the stories of people, places, and events that matter to young Africans.
Since 2009, Netng has been documenting the lives and times of Africa’s most important entertainers, and today, Davido is undoubtedly one of the most celebrated and recognizable Africans globally,”
Nigeria Entertainment today and ID Africa started working on the project in 2020. Although production for “We rise: The Davido story” did not start until November 2020 which is a year and few months ago.
“We rise: The Davido story” was produced as a documentary that contains interviews with key media personalities and public figures: Tosin Ajibade (Actor), Eromo Egbejule, Obi Asika (CEO of Stom360), Internaional DJ- Jimmy Jatt, Gbemi Olateru Olagbegi and Dr. Olusegun Ojuola- Davido’s music lecturer at Babcock Univeristy.
Journalist Eromo Egbejule said:
“He hustles like a pauper. If I had the kind of money that his father has, I assure you I’d be throwing my legs up every day in Dubai or somewhere else.

But he still hustles like he wants to make his mark, and that has endeared him to certain people,”
Also speaking about Davido in the documentary, Gbemi Olateru-Olagbegi said:
“Whether or not you think it’s because he’s rich that he’s gotten to where he is, he hustles like he has no money and rent is due today.”

David Adeleke- popularly called by his stage name “Davido” and styled on Spotify as “DaVido”, is a Nigerian-American singer-songwriter who rose to fame in 2011.
Before then, Davido’s interest had sparked in music way before the release of his debut album- “Omo Baba Olowo” (2011). He formed a music group/act with his cousins B-Red and Sina Rambo. The act was called “KB international”
Background
Nigerian vocalist/producer Davido blends traditional African elements with global mainstream pop for a sound that’s equal parts intriguing and infectious.
He quickly grew from club-ready early songs to charting tracks and features from big names like Nicki Minaj and Chris Brown on his 2020 album- A Better Time.
Davido was born David Adedeji Adeleke in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1992. His interest in music began while attending Oakwood University in his late teens, and he started making his own beats and investigating music production.
He dropped out of school and began pursuing music full-time, relocating to Lagos, Nigeria, and releasing his debut single, “Back When,” in 2011.
The single received some attention for its mix of clubby production, high-energy vocals, and Afro-pop rhythms, and was followed shortly by second single “Dami Duro.”
Work began on his debut album, “Omo Baba Olowo”, which was released in 2012 and produced a plethora of singles.
Success came quickly for Davido, and he sated his fans with a string of new tracks released over the next several years while he was working on his sophomore album, The Baddest, which was still unreleased as of 2020.
Between 2013 and 2017, singles like “Gobe,” “Aye,” and “Pere” (among many others) piled up, sometimes featuring collaborations with bigger-name rappers like Meek Mill and Young Thug.
Between albums, Davido also inked a deal with RCA.
More standalone tracks followed until 2019, when second album A Good Time arrived, featuring guest appearances from A Boogie wit da Hoodie, Perruzi, Popcaan, Chris Brown, Summer Walker, Gunna and other stars from around the world, and did well both commercially and with critics.
Davido quickly followed the next year with his third effort A Better Time. The album was a similarly star-studded affair, with guest spots from Nicki Minaj, Lil Baby, Saulti Sol, and many others on Davido’s bright and catchy R&B-infused Afropop.
“A Better Time” also fared well commercially, breaking into the Billboard charts its first week of release.
