War Wrath and Revenge Netflix Review
Netflixā series adaptation of the popular Sons of the Caliphate movie has more misses than it does nods. Perhaps, the seriesā intention to stay true to the reality of politics and corruption in Nigeria is its self-defeating blow.
War: Wrath and Revenge has a stellar cast ofĀ Rahama Sadau, Yakubu Mohammed, Patrick Doyle, Ayoola Ayolola, Ifeanyi Kalu, Theresa Edem, Bikiya Graham Douglas, Daniel Okosun, Maikudi āCashmanā, Mickey Odeh, Sophia Muhammed, Uzee Usman, Padita AguĀ andĀ Ahide Adum. (See full cast here)
Nods
Props to the realism of War Wrath and Revenge. The series revolves around a chain of political events surrounding the Governorship elections in a fictional state called Kowa in Northern Nigeria. The series does great in highlighting the fact that there are some well-intentioned leaders who want to lead a state because of their sincere concern for the welfare of the people. However, this intention gets soiled by the must-win attitude of their stakeholders.
Nuhu Bula is a victim of this system. Although he knows that his wife is a ruthless person who would do anything to make sure he wins, he does not actually think she would go as far as killing the Emir and other innocent people on the plane. This is similar to so many other politicians who mean well in their aspirations of being a leader, but are puppets and victims of the stakeholders that support their campaigns.
The acting of Rahama Sadau, Mofe Duncan, and especially Theresa Edem is worthy of note in the series. They really sustain the interest of the viewers. Kudos on great casting.
War Wrath and Revenge Netflix Review shows that the amazing cinematography of the series is worthy of an applause . The setting, language, costume and plot is on point and the series offers a realistic portrayal of politics in Nigeria, but there are just too many misses that overshadow the nods.Ā
War Wrath and Revenge Netflix Review: Misses
First, War Wrath and Revenge Netflix Review shows that the series is a long, almost unsatisfying watch. The predictability that surrounds the actions of each of the characters makes it an almost unbearable watch. While the characterization is done in a good way, the characters are too predictable and it makes for a very patterned-plot.Ā
There have been so many Nollywood series about electioneering and corruption in Nigeria, and there is usually a pattern their plots follow. In an attempt to be realistic and to portray characters as they are in Nigeriaās political landscape, War Wrath and Revenge does not stand out. Movies like The Republic share similar themes and characters, it becomes almost impossible to give this series the applause it deserves because itās simply not new material.
It is quite understandable that the series is well-intentioned, but its feeble attempt to create suspense with its indefinite ending is almost underwhelming as viewers cannot really point to much to look forward to.
At the end of the day, War Wrath and Revenge Netflix Review indicates that it does not bring anything new from a fresh perspective on politicking in Nigeria. It is too patterned in plot, characterization, action and storytelling that it makes for a tiring watch.
Perhaps if the series had attempted to be more ambitious in its material, it would have made for a more enjoyable watch.
