Davido’s first Billboard Hot 100 entry: A Winning Streak
After securing three Grammy nominations in the 2024 Grammys, and having perhaps, the most successful release for an African Album this decade, Davido has achieved yet another feat that only few Nigerian artists have.
Davido and Chris Brown’s “Sensational” on Billboard Hot 100
Nigerian-American singer, songwriter and record producer Davido has achieved a remarkable feat with his latest single “Sensational”, featuring American superstar Chris Brown and rising Nigerian talent Lojay. The song, which was released on 2023, has debuted at number 96 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, making it Davido’s first entry on the prestigious ranking of the most popular songs in the United States.
Davido has joined the other Nigerian Artists on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Recently, he performed at the 02 Arena in London, becoming the only Nigerian artist to sell out the venue three times.
“Sensational” is a catchy and upbeat afro-fusion track that showcases the diverse musical influences and styles of the three artists. The song is the lead single from Chris Brown’s latest studio album.
Davido, whose full name is David Adedeji Adeleke, is widely regarded as one of the most influential afrobeats artists of the 21st century, and is credited alongside Burna Boy and Wizkid for popularizing the genre globally. ³ He was born in Atlanta, United States, and raised in Lagos, Nigeria. He made his music debut as a member of the group KB International, and later pursued a solo career with his debut studio album Omo Baba Olowo in 2012. He rose to fame with his hit singles “Dami Duro”, “Gobe”, “Skelewu”, “Aye” and “Fall”, among others.
Davido has won numerous awards and accolades for his music, including a BET Award, a Kora Award, a Channel O Music Video Award, a Ghana Music Award, a Nigeria Music Video Award, two MTV Africa Music Awards, two African Muzik Magazine Awards, five The Headies Awards, seven Nigeria Entertainment Awards and two Dynamix All Youth Awards. He also received three nominations at the 66th Annual Grammy Award for “Unavailable”, “Feel” and his album Timeless.
Davido is not only a successful musician, but also a cultural ambassador for Nigeria and a prominent voice of human rights in Africa. He has been involved in various philanthropic and social causes, such as supporting education, health and youth empowerment initiatives, campaigning against police brutality and corruption, and promoting peace and unity among different ethnic groups.
