Syrax: Meet Rhaenyra Targaryen’s Dragon
If there is something about Game and Thrones, and the new sequel- House of the Dragon, it’s the amazing way Dragons are portrayed and how they symbolize immense power in the series
Here is all you need to know about Rhaenyra Targaryen’s Dragon: Syrax
Meet Syrax: Rhaenyra Targaryen’s Dragon
Syrax is Rhaenyra Tragaryen’s dragon. Syrax is a she-dragon. The first time Rhaenyra Targaryen flew on her back was when when she was seven years old. At this time. Syrax was very young. This was in the year 104 AC
Syrax- Rhaenyra Targaryen’s Dragon was named after a Valyrian goddess by Rhaenyra Targaryen herself.
Syrax has yellow scales and she was very huge and powerful. The reason for this might be that she was fed almost more than the other dragons and she was chained.
Meanwhile, during this period, Rhaenyra Targaryen’s Dragon- Syrax was catered for but could not raom around nor hunt.
More about Syrax
As a she-dragon, Rhaenyra Targaryen’s Dragon was very powerful. Although not as powerful as Caraxes. Still, she was powerful. She laid several eggs and one of the eggs grew up to be a powerful dragon too.
The powerful dragon born by Syrax was given to Rhaenyra Targaryen’s step sister- Rhaena.
It is also said that literally all of Rhaenyra Targaryen’s sons’ dragons’ were hatched by Rhaenyra Targaryen’s Dragon- Syrax.
Before Rhaenyra Targaryen came to King’s Landing, she was princess of the Dragonstone.
Meanwhile, upon her father’s death, she decided to return to King’s landing even though she had just been through an unsuccessful birth of a child- (the child was born still).
By the time Rhaenyra Targaryen knew of the kingmakers’ plan to name someone else as King, she recovered little strength and flew on Syrax, her dragon, to storm King’s Landing and take her father’s throne.
This was successful and after the storming, Rhaenyra Targaryen’s Dragon was kept in the Red Keep where she was bound with huge chains that allowed her to move around freely but not enough to let her fly without a rider.

Syrax: Dance of the Dragons
As Rhaenyra Targaryen’s dragon, Syrax was instrumental to the Dance of the Dragons. Of course, Rhaenyra rode her throughout the war alongside her other Dragon riders and her soldiers.
After Viserys passed away in AD 129, Ser Otto Hightower, the Hand of the King, and Ser Criston Cole, the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, chose to crown Aegon II, Viserysâ half-brother.
This started a civil war, known as the Dance of Dragons., where Aegon IIâs supporters (called the Greens ) claimed that the first son always took precedence in the line of succession, while Rhaenyraâs supporters defended her right as the kingâs firstborn. Both sides had dragons and the kingdom split.
At the beginning of the conflict, Rhaenyra flew on her dragon Syrax.
Death of Syrax: Rhaenyra Targaryen’s dragon
Syrax was killed in the Storming of the Dragon pit. Rhaenyra Targaryen’s son- Joffrey, had attempted to ride her and save her but he was shook off and died in the process.
Syrax would later kill dozens of mob and she was said to have been killed by rioters. She died in 130 AC
Throughout her lifetime, Rhaenyra Targaryen was her only rider.
