Omah Lay Boy Alone Review
While the lyricism on Boy Alone album is applauding because of Omah Lay’s songwriting talent, the delivery is off on most of the songs. It is understandable that Omah Lay sings about pain, and the reason he titled his album “Boy Alone” is to share that pain and loneliness with the world.
However, we can’t feel it as we ought to. On most of the songs, it’s the lyrics that keeps us awake. The delivery is the sabotaging element on this album.
“Recognise” is meant to be an intro/album opener for Boy Alone.
Boy Alone review shows that it does really well as an album opener. It sets the tone to indicate how great Omah Lay is and how far he has come despite being a buy from Port-Harcourt whom no one knew. Of the first three songs “I”. “Recognise” and “Bend You”, “Bend You” is the only stand-out song.
However, Boy Alone review based on this track pinpoints how Omah Lay’s voice is below the mix and Bend You does not have that powerful effect it should have on us. It still hits though.
“Woman”, one of the lead singles off Boy Alone Album is the best of the first four songs, and it’s actually good that it came early on the album.
So far, Boy Alone review has shown that the songs so far have not given that good of an impression.
Don’t get it wrong, Omah Lay’s pen game is on point, but the only records that have stuck with us is “Woman” and to a point, “Bend You”
The Niphkeys produced track “I’m a mess” is the perfect Boy Alone song- the perfect sample track. Omah Lay discusses his loneliness on this track without holding back.
He talks about how he can never be sober because alcohol is his company.
Boy Alone review shows that I’m a mess is the center of the album. Omah Lay confesses that he is just not good at keeping people’s company.
“Understand” goes along with the other songs “Woman” and “Bend You” as the “love issues” track on Boy Alone album.
Boy Alone review indicates that Omah lay’s issues are caused by his loneliness and to a large extent, I mean, tracks like Bend you and Woman are attributed to his attention about Women, while tracks like I’m a mess, Recognise and Attention, speak about his loneliness.
“Never Forget” is not an outstanding track even though the production is actually really good. It doesn’t contribute to this song.
The song gets little of our attention like “Temptation”. Safe Haven is a really good track with amazing production and songwriting.
But Omah Lay’s vocals were really needed on this track and not the mixing and production that takes over most of the time. That would have made Safe Haven really great.
Attention couples with “I’m a mess” to give us that feeling that we are listening to an album about a person’s loneliness.
This song is really relatable. Literally everyone wants attention at any point no matter how big they are.
“Soso” is a really good track. But it would have been more amazing if the catchy hook had not been vocalized but made an actual hook that can stay with us after listening to the song.
Omah Lay Boy Alone review
It seems Omah Lay’s intention is to create a body of work where he shares his pain and experiences with people.
He did that, but just not as sufficiently as we hoped. The album has songs that makes us wonder if we could hold up like Omah lay has been doing, but there are also songs on this album that do not make the album incredible at all.
In all, Boy Alone is impressionistic, and not bad for a debut album. But it could have been way more powerful if better arrangement was inputted.
