Spotify did not acquire Mavin Records, here is why
Recently, Social Media users have taken to media platforms to announce that International streaming service platform- Spotify, acquired the biggest Record Label in Nigeria- Mavin Records.
Apparently, it was said that Spotify bought Mavin Records for #70 Million while some claimed it was #40 Billion.
The news was even Trending for a number of days and a lot of people seemed to believe it. Let’s get to the root of the matter and debunk these rumours.
Did Spotify buy Mavin Records?
No, Spotify did not buy Mavin Records. Apparently, it was an April fool’s prank. The International streaming platform had no such dealing with Mavin.
However, people were eager to think that was the truth because it may have been that a News/Media company started the rumour.
It also didn’t help that some major news and media outlets with some amount of credibility reported the news.
This further spurred people’s belief that the international streaming platform did acquire Mavin Records.
Don Jazzy himself replied the message on Twitter and debunked the rumours that Spotify acquired Mavin Records.
He said:

But to separate the truth from the untruth, Mavin Records is actually owned by Mavin Holdings. Which means Mavin Records is a subsidiary under Mavin Holdings.
It appears Mavin Holdings is a group of companies that consists of Mavin Records and Mavin Energy– An oil and gas company.

These companies are owned by Don Jazzy.
Mavin records boasts of artists lineup like Rema {Who recently released his debut album}, Ayra Starr, Johnny Drille, Magixx and Ladipoe.
