Review: Basketmouth’s “Horoscopes” album is impressionistic
Basketmouth is out with his sophomore album titled “Horoscopes” and the ratings are right here in our review
1) Love and Life- Basketmouth, Johnny Drille, MI Abaga, Basketmouth
“Love and life” opens with Johnny Drille’s verse and he sets a good pace for the song.
“Love and Life ” is about insecurity; about a guy’s fears of losing his lady and the relationship. He is majorly scared because of his bad habits too.
Of course,Simi complements Johnny Drille well as this is not the first time they will be appearing on song together.
“Love and life” is a good romantic RNB song, the lyrics are on point, but the mixing and production leaves a little to be desired. MI delivers effortlessly on the song. He completes the song wondrously.
“Love and life” is a good album opener for “Horoscopes”
2) “Your body” Buju, Basketmouth
“Your body” opens with a little less passionate delivery. The song has a great potential, but it is not throughly explored.
Buju tries his best on his verse, and even though the lyrics are okay, there is no clear cut chorus to make the song memorable so we can take something with us
3) “Listen” Basketmouth, Wande Coal
“Listen” is an attention- grabbing song on “Horoscopes” album, and not only because ofÂ
the theme, but because Wande Coal begins the song like pro, admonishing you to listen to his “wise counsel“. It has a catchy lyrics of:
“Teti, mo ni ko teti si oun ti mo fe so, a wulo niwaju”
Review: Rema âCalm downâ- A good enough listen?
“Listen” begins well, but it sounds a tad incomplete. Like wande Coal began a story of hustle and fame but didn’t put a final note to it. This would have made “Listen” a more satisfying listen.
4) “Celowi” Basketmouth, Peruzzi
“Celowi” starts on a sizzling, mystic tune that gets you interested in “Celowi“. You cannot even get it’s a romantic song.
“Celowi” is easily one of the best songs on this album. It’s so raw afrobeats and uses the “Celowi” term with thrilling glibs.
Kudos to Peruzzi on the heat he brought on this song!
5) “Money” Basketmouth, Oxlade, Efya
“Money” is not the best song on Basketmouth’s “Horoscopes” album. Probably because of the introduction and the way the lyrics are laid on the beats.
Oxlade begins a little slow on the song,. Meanwhile, he picks up so amazingly. He does justice to his verse and exalts the song later on.
Efya further makes the song a pleasant listen, and although her verse is not entirely Intriguing, it saves “Money“.Â
6) “Trouble” Basketmouth, Blaqbonez, 2Baba
2Baba opens “Trouble” well and begins an interesting story of a lady he saw and admired while people criticised him for the admiration.
We have to give it to Blaqbonez, he complements 2Baba so well! He handled his verse like a Pro. The best part was where he said:
“I don’t want to get in trouble, I no wan dey for Instablog!”
7) “The Traveller” Basketmouth, The Cavemen, Kwabena Kwabena
“The Traveller” is a very amusing song that will most likely be picked on by movies that have to do with adventures or travelling.
It’s a perfect suit. It has such a rustic reminiscent tune that makes you remember old songs. It’s a recreation of the work of great men who sang decades ago! The Cavemen did something legendary!

8) “Leave me” Basketmouth, Reekado Banks, Falz
“Leave me” is a romantic song, but the delivery with which Reekado Banks begins the song is not noteworthy.
Although he tries to pick up, he never really delivers as he would normally. Falz starts with an almost enthusiastic delivery, although not the full-on Falz delivery you would get, but it would have been better if he opened “Leave me“.
It’s also hard to try to connect “Leave me” to the song because it is not exactly the theme of the song. The song is more about the sexual prowess of a lady and should have been named after whoever the lady being sang about is.
9) “Assembly of Gods” Basketmouth, Falz, The Cavemen, Magnito, Illbliss, Flavour, Dremo
There are seven artists on a four minute song.
First, the Cavemen should not have opened this song because their tune is different to the other artists on this song.
I mean, you have Dremo and Falz on this song. The idea behind the song might be that the Cavemen are the gods who have invited the boys into the cave.
Falz and the rest of the artists deliver but there shouldn’t have been seven artists on this song.
Blaqbonezâs âBreaking the Yoke of loveâ Crusade concert
Surprisingly, “Assembly of Gods” ends amazingly. But the argument is that it is not the best way to close Basketmouth’s “Horoscopes” album.
Basketmouth’ Horoscopes is impressionistic, but it is not solid enough as Basketmouth’s previous album.
It’s as though the songs were recorded by selecting collaborations and without a certain theme or goal in mind. Which is why it doesn’t sound like a body of work-but more like a number of collaborations.
On “Horoscopes”, only about three songs stand out, which is not all too impressive considering that it’sa collaboration embedded album
