Kizz Daniel âBarnabasâ EP Review
Released on November 18,2021, here’s the review of Kizz Daniel’s latest EP “Barnabas”
1) âPour me waterâ
âPour me waterâ was released ahead âBarnabasâ Ep and it made quite some impact in Nigeria upon its release. It talks about how Kizz faces unrequited love from a lady and how the lady does not appreciate him, bills him unnecessary and he says:
âFine boy like me?â
He seems top be shocked that he has money and heâs fine and the lady is not satisfied still. So he says:
âMake you no pour me waterâ
The song is okay as a romantic song, but it lacks the power of most of the romantic songs on this EP and really shouldn’t have come first
2) Addict
“Addict” is about a person who has unapologetic addiction. Kizz Daniel says:
“Odun mon mi bi sugar,
but after tomorrow, I’ll change”
“Addict” is more of a song of admonishment to people who drink and smoke all kinds of things. Kizz Daniel says:“Search yourself”.
This song really reproaches addictive behaviours and the fact that this track comes second means it must be so important to Kizz Daniel. I mean, for the first time in a long time, someone actually talks about an important individual psychological issue like addiction on their body of work.
It’s so important that artists establish an other-than romantic and heart break song approach to their body of work. Kizz Daniel has added this new sound to his EP and all we can say is kudos to him. The song really achieves its purpose.
3)”Eh God”
This song has already singled itself out of the album and it’s so freshhhhh. Kizz Daniel consults God and entreat him to contribute to his career and life. He boasts about having God. He says he absolutely trusts God for his daily loads of blessing.

The line:
“Eh God o..no make I fall o…this one wey things don cost, I still want to ball” is so memorable and catchy that it leaves us something to take from the EP even when we try to forget anything on the EP.
Kizz Daniel also promises re-committment to God and it even sounds like a song of reconciliation. He says it’s almost been too long God talked to him.
This song signals the reason behind the title of the EP “Barnabas”. It’s a well made song- The beats, the percussions and the way Kizz’s dialogue within the song blends so perfectly in the song, makes it a lovely song to listen to. What’s more?, it’s even very danceable.
4)“Oshe ft Cavemen”
“Oshe” is a romantic song but it’s one like no other!!!! It’s so natural and unique. The call and response and the dialogue makes it a one in a kind romantic song. The adulation is on a next-level. The Cavemen’s chorus makes the song so madddd.
There are very few people who can sing a perfect romantic song like this. But this may be because Kizz Daniel is a natural romantic. There’s no way a lady will listen to this song and not feel wooed!

I mean, the chorus does the job of extreme conviction to the lady in question.
Kizz does not struggle to deliver the song and his gentle delivery makes it obvious that it may be true that he is the only one who can sing a love song so effortlessly that it still won’t make the listeners bored any minute.
His last album “King of Love” (2020) was about love, it had no features and it did so well on streaming platforms.
5) “Burn”
“Burn” has sizzling tune and lyrics. Kizz says:
“You make me Burn like fire,
you make me shine like diamond,
you make me run like bolt…Usain bolt”.
There is something about how Kizz Daniel strings lyrics for a romantic song together. It’s like he was born to do that. Although “Burn” is way too short and it shows that it seems like Kizz ran out of what to say on the song, the flaw is still covered up by his effluent delivery. He says:
“I’m the coil, you are the engine
I’m the ouu…you are the ouwee”.
This is the first time this writer is hearing lyrics like this and it really helps the EP sound so freshhhh, with new original lyrics.
6) “Lie”
Wow. This song is a big hittttttt. It had been released ahead the album and it has made wavesss.
It has a unique tune that sets the song on a roll of patterned stages . Listening to it is like being on a subtle roller coaster, with the way Kizz Daniel works his lyrics once more. It has a catchy line of:
“Everybody know say omo me I no dey lie”
7) “Skin” ft Kevin Colt
Whatttt! A song about skin by a Nigerian.
Tell me more! This is literally the first song I’m hearing about skin- sung by a Nigerian; especially by a Nigerian male artist. Kizz Daniel says:
“It looks so nice, its what you do that counts”.
Although Kizz’ delivery and songwriting on this song could be better; especially the songwriting.
The fact that it is able to effectively talk about Skin and how perfect anyone’s skin is regardless of colour, makes the song a commendable one. Thumbs up to him on this!
Kizz Daniel’s “Barnabas” EP shows something – Growth. Out of the seven songs on the album, only 4 are romantic songs.
It should be noted that even the romantic songs are so classic; so cool you want to listen to them all over again. Kizz Daniel also shows that a song or body of work does not have to be explicit before it shows romance or love.
There is just too much of his sound evolution and maturity flying on this body of work. From talking about his re-commitment to God, to talking about psychological problems like addiction and then to societal issues like skin colour, Kizz Daniel deserves all his As!!!
