Few days ago, there was an out pouring of sad emotions from fans when it was announced that Netflix’s super intriguing show had written the dashing Duke of Hastings- Rege-Jean Page off the series and he would not appear in the second season.
Currently, Bridgerton is the most watched series on Netflix with over 82 million household viewership. Despite premiering on December 25, 2020, their Instagram page has over two million followers. It is no doubt, Bridgerton has come to stay and is one of the favorite shows, if not the favorite show of almost everybody. Meanwhile, can the decision of Jean Page’s departure guarantee the show’s unwavering captivating attention it has on viewers?
Set in the Regency era when debutante are presented in court, the show is based on Julia Quinn’s novels and created by Chris Van Dusen. While the first season might have presented a series of fascinating and intriguing events, we are not entirely sure the second season will guarantee that. Or, to be sincere, might even help the show increase viewership.
Therefore, below is what Jean Page’s departure from Bridgerton could mean for the show:
The Show has developed a series of far more interesting events than the life of the Duke of Hastings and his wife
Bridgeton might have concocted a network of events in Season 2 that renders the plot of the Duke of Hastings and his wife slightly unnecessary. The Couple had the most of our attention in Season 1. They hated each other at first, created a charade, fell in love, got married and overcame the Duke of Hasting’s oath of not having children. They seem to be done and their happily ever after not far from the corner. Besides, it was revealed that:
“While all eyes turn to Lord Anthony Bridgerton’s quest to find a Viscountess, we bid adieu to Regé-Jean Page, who so triumphantly played the Duke of Hastings. We’ll miss Simon’s presence onscreen, but he will always be a part of the Bridgerton family. Daphne will remain a devoted wife and sister, helping her brother navigate the upcoming social season and what it has to offer—more intrigue and romance than my readers may be able to bear.”
Enhancement in the plot of Lady Whistledown
Lady Whistledown was almost caught in Season 1. The second season therefore might bring more complications and intrigue in the process of unveiling her real identity. She drew so much attention from both the viewers and even the characters in the series. If anything, we are in awe of her prowess, her independence and her boldness to tell the truth regardless of her gender in a society that already wrote down a woman’s life and destiny.
Enhancement in the plot of ‘wifing up’ Anthony Bridgerton
Anthony Bridgerton, the eldest son and heir to the Bridgerton estate, had several problems finding a wife. One of which was not wanting to ‘wife’ himself up but rather enjoy the pleasure he derived from seeing a woman society does not accept. The woman leaves him for ‘reality’- a rich man whom she doesn’t love, but will take care of her. Season 2 should bring more compelling situations around wifing the Lord up.
Marina Thompson’s reconnection with Colin Bridgerton
Perhaps the sweetest love story after the Duke and Duchess’, Marina and Colin had a wonderful chemistry in Season 1, but all hell broke loose when she hid her pregnancy from him and it was ‘discovered’ by Lady Whistledown. We hope Season 2 brings more circumstances that reconnect these two together, how they fight against their love and how they will forgive each other.
Possible drop in viewership
Okay hold on, we are trying to be realistic here and it’s all a prognosis. If Bridgerton does not offer the spice in the first two episodes of the next season, then there is a probability that there will be a drop in the number of viewers. Some people might not even be interested to watch again since the Duke of Hastings is gone. I mean, how many TV Series write off their major characters early in the series? Game of Thrones waited for the last episode to kill Daenerys Targaryn (Character played by Emilia Clarke), and Money Heist waited till season 4 to write off Nairobi.

Maybe it is not the best call, but let’s hope Bridgerton does not disappoint us as we await the next season.
