Kizz Daniel Maverick Album Review
Red and Green sounds like the perfect song intro because it says something about Kizz Danielâs own nature in relation to his relationship with other people. A Maverick is an independent-minded person; someone who is so unconventional and behaves in ways that other people donât. This is what Kizz Daniel tries to establish with his album and we hear that in the first two songs on the album
âMy Gâ is an adept, sarcastic, yet enjoyable remark on how Kizz Daniel doesnât mind the things people say about him or his career because he has figured out that those things donât matter in the scheme of things at all. He doesnât mind if he doesnât win a Grammy because his worth is not determined by it, or his possessions either.
âFlexâ is a kind of track that should make its way off this album to later become a hit song. The only thing stopping this might be the down-to-Fela-style of its production, so it might not be every listenerâs best track. But we all know what Kizz and The Cavemen did with âOsheâ. So âFlexâ might enjoy that popularity too.
Kizz Daniel Maverick Album Review indicates that âShow you offâ is not an outstanding record and should never have come as number 5 in a 20-track record. Still, the descriptive sound and recycled adlibs sounds like something TikTok kids can dance to.
âShu-peruâ and âBugaâ following each other is unnecessary. These are two hit tracks and the two biggest tracks on the album. The sequencing should have placed them farther from each other considering that the third biggest song on the album- âCoughâ was placed at number 4
âFeran you twoâ is a song made by an artist that has experienced fatherhood and loved it. Itâs devoid of the need to be perfect or to impress and sounds like a track made for Kizz Daniel and his children to enjoy and vibe to, but made its way to the album because itâs a cute song. The song has âDudukeâ vibes, and will enjoy relatability with parents more.
âFeran Miâ ft. Johnny Drille has an incredible intro. The hook is the sweetest thing about this song, it increases the replay value. Also, Johnny Drille bodied Kizz Daniel on this song, especially with his sonorous intro and his verse. It sounds like a track that would actually have been originally written by Johnny Drille. Overall, itâs a very satisfying record.
âComplicatedâ is about a relationship where the guy is stuck and tries to fall out of love with a lady he canât do without ânot lovingâ. If thereâs something about Kizz Daniel, itâs that heâll always find a hook/chorus to save his song. The lady singing the hook on this song has such a sultry voice that makes you want to listen to everything she says even if you donât understand.
âEâbetterâ is a song that challenges the status quo of relationships that are formed based on attractiveness alone. Kizz Daniel hammers the fact that a lady having a fine face or big features or curves doesnât mean sheâs the perfect one for you, or that she knows so many things that will help you in life. Itâs a really didactic record.
âBlood is thickerâ sounds like another cool song off this album that seals Kizz Danielâs status in the industry as someone that recognizes his impact and power. The lyrics are not perfect and this makes the song fall off a little before the chorus picks up again.
âOne Dollarâ ft. Blaqbonez is a near-sonic record that deepens the theme of Maverick album. It sounds like something Seyi Vibez would write. However, Blaqbonez having just an intro in the song is such a waste. Blaqbonez is way too lyrically brilliant to not have at least a verse on a song like this. It makes the song fall short of its potential.
âEasy to loveâ is a simple song that will enjoy popularity among the pool of romantic people who love to make Instagram videos about their love to showcase to people. Itâs a really cool song.
âPourâ sounds like something Zlatan would write. It sounds like a perfect Zlatan blueprint or something that could be written by Lil Kesh. It would have been better if Zlatan were on this track because Kizz Daniel does not have the delivery to perform a song like this. The song fails its experimentation because Kizzâs voice on the song is too soft for a talk-record as such.
âNeverâ is that life-explaining record that Kizz Daniel is so good at and he delivers it well. It sounds well-written and performed but itâs too short…just too short
âAnchovyâ is a song that explains more of Kizz Danielâs Maverick character. Itâs as though the album took a detour on this album and reconnected right from where he started. Itâs a song that bears down the realities of life and will relate well to people who enjoyed Burna Boyâs âCommon Personâ
âSide Chick ft. DJ Big N, Yemi Alade and Young Jonn is a song that adulates being a side-chick and tries to rationalize the deadly seduction and lust it entices people with. Also, can we actually give Yemi Alade her flowers on this song? Her verse was really entertaining and she carried the song well.
Kizz Daniel Maverick Album Review
Kizz Danielâs experimentation with a few songs on this album is an indication of his genuine interest to perfect his artistry and deliver a well-curated body of work, and even though some of the experimented production and arrangement did not produce the desired result, the album still gives a satisfying listen that encourages an encouraging replay-value.
A few of the songs should not have made the album because they made the album sound over flogged, but even in their numbers, those songs still have elements of sheer enjoyability.
Kizz Daniel is a true artist, and Maverick is a decent body of work. But it is not different or new material.
