Leave the World Behind Ending Part 2
Leave the world behind part 2 is sparking conversations based on its possibility. But will there ever be a leave the world Behind part 2?
The star-studded series that features Julia Roberts and Mahershala Ali is sparking conversations for its controversial ending. But Netflix viewers want more
Leave the World Behind Ending Part 2
After landing in the top spot of Netflix’ Movies chart, there has been only one question in the minds of the viewers, Will there be a part 2 to Leave the world behind? Perhaps the most shocking thing is that the movie shows so much promise and even indicates that there might be the death of one or more of the major characters. But as we progress, we realize it’s more about the apocalypse going on and not entirely about the characters themselves.
Will there be a part 2 to leave the world behind?
Rulaam Alam, The author of the novel “Leave the World Behind”, which served as the source material for the movie, suggested that there should be no part 2 to Leave the world behind. He stated in his interview with Variety, that it would be so “dissatisfying” if the movie gave the audience some closure. He indicated that he wrote the book around the concept of uncertainty, and it would do a great disservice to the originality of the plot if there were some definite ending that accompanied it just like any other book.
In the same vein, the concept of disaster and uncertainty that surrounds it shows that the question of whether there will be a part 2 to Leave the World Behind is already answered. It’s not like any other novel about apocalypse. There are so many unexplainable elements in the movie that either the characters of the viewers do not understand; like the gathering of the Deer, or Archie’s teeth falling out. At best, the characters try and interpret these events as best as they can, and come to a conclusion about them, but their conclusions are not definite or factual, just a case of what may or may not be.
Ruth (Character played by Myha’la) quickly suggests that the animals are trying to tell them something, when the Deer confront her. But this does not explain their numerous and frequent gatherings, which is weird. The swimming of the Flamingos in the pool is extremely weird too, even Archie’s teeth-falling-out scenario cannot be easily attributed to the sound. Didn’t others hear the sound too? Or could it be that the bite of the insect in the forest led to the falling out of his teeth?
There are so many questions left unanswered. Even the death of Ruth’s mum is uncertain.
So Will there be a part 2 to leave the world behind?
If the movie goes by the source material of the novel, there should be no Part 2 to Leave the World Behind because it’s meant to end on a note of uncertainty. However, if the movie is one that will garner much more viewership for a part 2, Netflix might make a part 2 of Leave the World Behind.

About Leave the World Behind Movie
Amanda Sanford, a misanthrope, wakes up one day and decides to take her family for an unplanned vacation to a rented house on Long Island. Her husband Clay is a professor, and her two children Rose and Archie are tech-obsessed. They stop at a grocery store and see a bearded man buying a large quantity of water and canned goods.
Once they reach the house, they have no cell connectivity. Rose, who has been binging Friends, is unable to watch the last episode. Clay and Amanda watch as a few deer enter the property. As they relax at a nearby beach, an oil tanker runs ashore. Disturbed, they return home only to realize that neither their television nor Wi-Fi is operable.
Later that night as the kids sleep, George H. Scott (G.H.) and his daughter Ruth show up at the house. They explain that the house is theirs and that a blackout in the city made them come out to Long Island. Ruth’s mother is in Morocco on a business trip and is due to fly back the next day. Amanda is immediately distrustful of them, but Clay allows them to spend the night after G.H. refunds them $1,000 in cash. As they’re getting ready for bed, Ruth privately asks G.H. about information one of his clients may have. As everyone sleeps that night an ominous news alert briefly appears stating hackers are behind the situation.
In the morning, Amanda discovers four news alerts on her phone: one warning about the hackers and one written in numbers and symbols. Rose watches a much larger group of deer than before come over to the property. Clay decides to drive to town to get some answers, but is unable to find his way as his GPS does not work. He drives past a distressed woman speaking in Spanish asking for help, but he drives away feeling helpless and overwhelmed. He also sees a drone dropping propaganda in Arabic.
G.H. decides to go over to his neighbor’s house, but finds the place in ruins. He finds a plane crash site on the nearby beach containing scattered bodies and severed body parts and watches another airplane crash into the same spot on the beach which soaks him in ocean water.
Rose confides her concerns about the deer to Archie, stating that the deer were trying to tell her something, but he brushes her off while fantasizing about Ruth. The two then go to explore the deer phenomenon and come across a mysterious shed. Archie tries to scare Rose by talking about someone sleeping in the shed and watching Rose through the window at night. When walking back to the house, Archie is bitten by a bug.
G.H. returns to the house and lies to Ruth and Amanda about why he is wet, stating that he fell into the Huxley’s pool. Later, G.H. informs Amanda that he was unable to use a satellite phone, theorizing that satellites must have been tampered with and that something far more malevolent is going on. It’s then that Amanda deduces the bearded man she saw at the store somehow knew what was about to happen, recalling the vast supplies he was purchasing. It’s then in a moment of terror, a painfully shrill noise blasts over the island and overpowers everyone around.
Eventually everyone comes to, seemingly unharmed. G.H. informs Amanda that the bearded man she previously saw bulk buying supplies is a self-proclaimed survivalist and housing contractor named Danny. Clay returns and shows the leaflet that was dropped with Archie translating part of it to mean “Death to America”. The Sanfords decide to drive to Amanda’s sister in New Jersey, but find the highway jammed with self-driving cars crashing into one another. They return to the property.
Later that night, G.H. confides in Amanda that a government conspiracy might be at play. The day before the blackout, G.H. recalls a powerful client in the Department of Defense making alarming changes to his money before making a veiled suggestion that catastrophe was near. They grow closer, but refuse to cheat on their spouses.
Meanwhile, Ruth asks Clay to vape with her and asks him provocative questions. They witness a flock of flamingos land in the pool. Immediately afterward, another blast from the high pitched sound overpowers the group yet again, but this time disabling the power and causing the flamingos to fly away. Ruth later claims to her father that Clay wants to have sex with her and questions him why he let them in again. They also talk about Ruth’s mother, whom they now assume to be deceased. Rose has disappeared the next morning and Archie’s teeth start falling out.
G.H. takes Clay and Archie to Danny, a survivalist, for medication. Danny suggests that Archie’s teeth falling out and the painful noise that everyone has experienced is the result of a microwave weapon. He also points out that Russia had recently recalled their staff from Washington D.C., suggesting America’s enemies had prior knowledge of the impending events. While looking for Rose, Amanda saves Ruth from being attacked by a herd of deer.
Meanwhile after a prolonged stand-off, Danny decides to help Archie in exchange for money and directs them to a nearby underground bunker prepared for doomsday. Finally at the end of his rope, G.H. confesses to Clay that he knows what’s happening – a coup d’état is afoot and people in positions of power are staging a civil war by disrupting technology and feeding misinformation, such as the propaganda. At the same moment, Amanda and Ruth see a bomb go off in New York City.
Somewhere nearby, Rose has broken into the neighboring home and found the bunker. An Emergency Alert System interceptor reveals that the U.S. is at war with rogue armed forces looking to overthrow the government. She finds a DVD of Friends and watches the last episode with it’s theme song playing during the credits.
