However, in his new movie, Veteran actress Omotola Jalade Ekeinde and Media Personalty Toke Makinwa, take the lead.
People are particularly interested in “Singing Sin” because it is a “one of a kind” movie that explores the control of the society by two fierce female characters in the ’70s.
Speaking on “Singing Sin” movie, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, who plays the role of Elektra, said:
“I am always happy to see projects that are women inclusive, both in front and behind the camera and that keeps pushing the envelope with the stories they tell. These are the stories that I have always championed and will continue to champion”.
Omotola believes “Singing Sin” will tell the story right. In her interview with GQ South Africa, she says:
“Nollywood has been known first for its depth of stories and widely enjoyed for the drama and depth of culture and nuances mostly by women of all ages.
However, I am always happy to see projects that are women inclusive, both in front and behind the camera and that keeps pushing the envelope with the stories they tell.
These are the stories that I have always championed and will continue to champion. And with Singing Sin, we have an opportunity to dive into that world, a world controlled by women, each with their different journeys”.

Michael Ifan, who confirmed that “Singing Sin” movie was written by Cheta Chukwu, says he is extremely excited about the project because it centers on two strong women.
It also explains the lives of African Women in the ’80s and how they conquered their fears and went after their dreams.
“Iâve always been intrigued by the lives of women in the 70âs, what it felt like at that time. I wanted to approach the subject matter musically, but also to explore some really important themes like self-image, ambition and the complexities of relationships,”
Speaking further on “Singing sin” movie, Michael Ifan said:
My vision is for people to be able to see themselves in these characters, to understand them and their journeys. I want people to be able to have conversations about the film at the end of the day.
Thatâs always a good place to start. The themes and issues we are exploring are real, and itâs quite shocking that even though the film is set in a different era, it almost seems like not much has changed. You know, itâs still relevant. You can watch it and not feel disconnected.
Also in her interview with GQ , Toke Makinwa expressed her interest in “Singing Sin” movie and how it has been different in terms of creativity, to the other projects she had been involved in:
“I think that my entire career has evolved over the years. Movies are not a new experience for me. When I was young, I was in the drama society in school, acting in the church and trying to explore my creative juice. I admit that, over the years, I havenât focused on movies.
My radio career, TV career, influencing and all other aspects of the Toke Makinwa brand have been at the forefront. But I find movies exciting and, in the last 3 â 4 years, Iâve made sure to do at least 2 projects.
It is relatively new that I am acting professionally, but itâs always been in the blood. I pick projects that intrigue me and push my creativity to the next limit.
I am always excited by the outcome. It is an interesting aspect of my brand. I love film and I love the act of telling stories and enjoy playing characters that are completely different from what people visualise Toke Makinwa as”.
Toke Makinwa further revealed that when she got the “Singing Sin” movie script, she was very intrigued by the character. She said she is a womenâs woman and that she loves women empowerment.
She loves seeing women flourish, shine, beat odds and surpass the limit thatâs been placed on them, and that is exactly what “Singing Sin” movie aims to achieve. She said:
According to her, “Singing Sin” movie will tell real stories. One you can find a part of you in each of the stories being told.
She also thinks that “Singing Sin” movie is weaving through areas and places that people donât normally go.
She said:
“I am super proud of Ifan Michael and Cheta Chukwu, the set of creative writers we have today, directors and movie-makers who are not okay with towing the lines that have been towed before.
They are delving deep into exploring areas that havenât yet been explored, making real stories, making relatable stories that would put us at the forefront of the world.
As human beings we are flawed in nature and thatâs the beauty. Itâs all about how we work through our flaws and still tell beautiful stories regardless of the scars we carry”.
I love the era Singing Sin is set in and the themes it explores. Iâm excited about the entire project and I canât wait for the world to see the magic that we are going to create.
For Ifan Michael, his vision is for people to be able to see themselves in the characters of “Singing Sin” movie, to understand them and their journeys.
