Omo Ghetto: The saga breaks Nollywood record and becomes the highest grossing movie ever
Apparently, Funke Akindele Bello’s ‘Omo Ghetto: the saga’ has broken a record in Nollywood to be the highest grossing movie ever, surpassing ‘The wedding party’ which held the erstwhile position.
The movie grossed a total of #468M, surpassing ‘The wedding party’ which had #453m gross. However, the movie is still showing in cinemas and is estimated to gross a total of at least #520m+ at the end of its period in the cinema.
The movie was directed by both Funke Akindele Bello and her husband- Abdulrasheed Bello. They had also been promoting the movie since November 2020 and kept people excited with teasers of the movie.
The movie is quite start studded, which is a feature of what most Nollywood highest grossing movies have. It stars Funke Akindele, Deyemi Okanlawon, Timini Egbuson, Dayo Amusa, Eniola Badmus, Alex Ekubo, Chioma Akpotha and a lot of of other Nollywood TV stars. Singer/songwriter Yemi Alade also stars in the movie which makes it her official acting debut.
Funke Akindele has been ruling the Nigerian movie scene for decades. She first started with Nollywood Yoruba but after gaining a lot of traction, she decided to go into making and starring in Nollywood movies full time. She has the biggest TV series in the country- Jenifa’s diary. And now, she also has the highest grossing movie in the country too- Omo Ghetto the Saga.
The screen diva shows that she is not stopping anytime soon and will continue to sit on top considering that she starred in at least three of the top 5 highest grossing Nollywood movies ever- Your excellency, Chief daddy and Omo Ghetto the saga.
