About Griselda Netflix Series
Griselda is a Netflix limited series that tells the story of Griselda Blanco, a Colombian businesswoman who became one of the most powerful drug lords in history. The series stars Sofía Vergara as Griselda, who flees from Medellín to Miami and creates a ruthless cartel that earns her the nickname “the Godmother”.
The series is inspired by real events, but also fictionalizes some aspects of Griselda’s life and crimes. The series is created by Carlo Bernard, Ingrid Escajeda, and Doug Miro, who also worked on Narcos and Narcos: Mexico. The series consists of six episodes, each about an hour long, and was released on Netflix on January 25, 2024. Here is a summary of each episode:
– Episode 1: Griselda escapes from an abusive husband in Medellín and starts working for a local drug dealer, Arturo. She proves her skills and ambition by smuggling cocaine to the United States and making connections with powerful traffickers. She also meets Dario, a handsome and charming pilot who becomes her lover and partner in crime.
– Episode 2: Griselda and Dario move to Miami and establish their own distribution network, competing with other cartels and attracting the attention of the DEA. Griselda also gives birth to her third son, Uber, and tries to balance her family life with her criminal empire. She hires Rivi, a cold-blooded hitman, to eliminate her enemies and protect her business.
– Episode 3: Griselda faces a betrayal from one of her closest allies, who reveals her identity and location to the authorities. She manages to escape a raid and goes into hiding, while Dario takes charge of the operations. Griselda also reconnects with her estranged daughter, June, who resents her mother for abandoning her.
– Episode 4: Griselda decides to expand her territory and move to New York, where she faces new challenges and rivals. She also clashes with her sons, Dixon and Ozzy, who want to join her business and prove themselves. Griselda orders a series of assassinations, including the murder of a pregnant woman, that spark a war with other cartels and the police.
– Episode 5: Griselda is arrested in New York and extradited to Colombia, where she faces trial and imprisonment. She uses her influence and money to bribe the judges and the guards, and continues to run her business from behind bars. She also reunites with Dario, who has been loyal to her despite her absence and infidelity.

However, she finds out that her enemies have not forgotten her and are still after her. She also struggles to reconnect with her family, who have grown apart from her. In the end, Griselda is killed by a motorcycle assassin, who fulfills a contract that was placed on her head years ago.
The main theme of the Griselda series is the rise and fall of a powerful and complex woman who defied the norms and expectations of her time and society. Griselda Blanco, played by Sofía Vergara, is a devoted mother and a savvy and ambitious businesswoman who creates one of the most profitable cartels in history. She is also a ruthless and violent criminal who orders countless murders and becomes known as the “Godmother of Cocaine” and the “Black Widow”.
The series explores how Griselda’s personality and choices are shaped by her traumatic childhood, her abusive relationships, her gender, and her ethnicity. She escapes from poverty and oppression in Colombia and seeks a better life in the United States, but she also faces discrimination and challenges from the male-dominated drug trade and the law enforcement. She uses her intelligence, charisma, and courage to overcome these obstacles and to assert her authority and independence. She also tries to balance her family life with her criminal empire, but she often fails to protect or connect with her children and lovers.
The series also examines the consequences of Griselda’s actions and decisions on herself and others. She becomes rich and powerful, but she also becomes paranoid and isolated. She loses many of her friends and allies, and she makes many enemies who want to destroy her. She is arrested and imprisoned several times, and she eventually meets a violent end. She also causes harm and suffering to many innocent people, including her own family, who are affected by her drug trafficking and violence.
The series is inspired by real events, but it also fictionalizes some aspects of Griselda’s life and crimes. It is not a documentary or a biography, but a dramatization and a reinterpretation of a controversial and fascinating figure. The series is not meant to glorify or condemn Griselda, but to portray her as a human being with flaws and virtues, who lived a remarkable and tragic life. The series is a compelling and captivating story that explores the themes of power, violence, gender, family, and identity.
