Plot Background

“Anikulapo: Rise of the Sceptre” continues the story of Saro, who finds himself in the land of the dead and is unable to cross over to the other side. He learns that he owes a debt to Akala, whose power he used to resurrect twenty people.
To settle his debt, Saro must eliminate all those he resurrected. If he fails, he will become a lost soul, wandering eternally without rest. Given an amulet by Heavenâs gatekeeper, Saro returns to the living realm, invisible to humans, which aids him in his grim task.
After killing three people, Saro meets a blind woman who can see him and tells him how to become visible again. Once human, he is followed by the ghosts of those he killed, who grant him three years to live before he must accompany them to the afterlife. During this time, Saro starts a palm wine business, competing with the town’s palm wine tapper, Karounwi, and marries his daughter, Olatorera.
Meanwhile, the kingdom of Oyo suffers from misfortune due to Akala’s vengeance. The Oracle advises bringing back Queen Arolake to perform rituals and appease Akala. Bashorun, one of the Kingâs chiefs, ready to oppose the King if necessary, sets out to find Arolake.
