1) Viola Davis as General Nanisca
Portraying Lead of The Woman King Cast is Viola Davis, who stars as Nanisca, group general of the Agojie (Kingdom Protectors).
She trains a new generation of warriors to fight against an enemy who wants to destroy their way of life
Davis began her career in Central Falls, Rhode Island, appearing in small theater productions. After graduating from the Juilliard School in 1993, she won an Obie Award in 1999 for her performance as Ruby McCollum in Everybody’s Ruby.
She played minor roles in several films and television series in the late 1990s and early 2000s, before earning the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play for her role as Tonya in the 2001 Broadway production of August Wilson’s King Hedley II.
Her film breakthrough came with her role as a troubled mother in the 2008 drama Doubt, for which she received her first Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
Greater success came to Davis in the 2010s.
She won the 2010 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play for her performance as Rose Maxson in the Broadway revival of August Wilson’s play Fences.
For starring as a 1960s housemaid in the comedy-drama The Help (2011), she won a Screen Actors Guild Award and received a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress.
From 2014 to 2020, she played lawyer Annalise Keating in the television drama series How to Get Away with Murder, for which she became the first black actress to win the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 2015

While the storyline centers majorly on Viola Davis, Star Wars actor John Boyega will be portraying King Ghezo- also a lead of The Woman King Cast.
King Ghezo is the ruler of the Dahomey kingdom and he is heavily protected by The Agojie
John Adedayo Bamidele Adegboyega (born 17 March 1992), known professionally as John Boyega, is a British actor and producer.
He first rose to prominence in Britain for his role as Moses in the sci-fi comedy film Attack the Block (2011), and his international breakthrough came with his role as Finn in the Star Wars sequel trilogy films The Force Awakens (2015), The Last Jedi (2017), and The Rise of Skywalker (2019).
His other credits include the drama film Imperial Dreams (2014), the historical drama film Detroit (2017), and thriller film Breaking (2022).
He received the BAFTA Rising Star Award in 2016, and the Trophée Chopard at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. He was cited as one of the Top 100 most influential Africans by New African magazine in 2020.
Boyega portrayed Leroy Logan in the 3rd episode of Steve McQueen’s anthology series Small Axe (2020).
For his performance he won the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor â Series, Miniseries or Television Film and the Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Actor in a Movie/Miniseries

On September 19, 2015, during the Women Making History Awards at the Skirball Cultural Centerâs National Womenâs History Museum in Los Angeles, producer Maria Bello presented an award to actress Viola Davis.
Bello took the opportunity to pitch her idea for the movie in front of the crowd. Davis recalled the audience âwent wildâ at the idea of seeing her in the lead role of the historical epic.
The Woman King was developed by Bello and producer Cathy Schulman, written by Dana Stevens with contributions by Gina Prince-Bythewood, and directed by Prince-Bythewood.
It is a co-production between TriStar Pictures and Entertainment One.
Davis and Lupita Nyongâo were announced to star in March 2018, but the latter dropped out before production began. The rest of the ensemble cast was announced between April 2021 and January 2022.

Set in the 19th century in the African kingdom of Dahomey, The Woman King follows the all-female group of warriors, the Agojie, who protect the kingdom. The group’s general Nanisca trains a new generation of warriors to fight against an enemy who wants to destroy their way of life
The film stars Viola Davis as a general who trains the next generation of warriors to fight their enemies; Thuso Mbedu, Lashana Lynch, Sheila Atim, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, and John Boyega also star.
