Kanye West names Essence best song ever madeÂ
American Rapper Kanye West, has named Wizkid’s Essence featuring Tems “The best song in the history of music till date” and everyone seems to be here for it!
In an Instagram post captioned by the rapper’s verified account, Kanye West declared that Wizkid’s Essence featuring Tems is the best song ever made in the history of music till date.
Almost immediately, Wizkid reposted this on his Instagram account to show that not only did he see what Kanye West posted, he acknowledges the fact that he may indeed have made the best song in the history of music.
Twitter Ng has been agog with the news as Twitter tweeps took to their handles to state that they feel the same way, and that Wizkid has gone really far for an established rapper like Kanye West to say that his song is the best in the whole world.

Singer/songwriter Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun (aka Wizkid) is one of Nigeriaâs biggest R&B crossover acts, having worked with Drake, Skepta, and Chris Brown, among others. He first found regional success in 2011 with the massively popular single âHolla at Your Boy,â which appeared on his debut album, Superstar.
Wizkid went global in 2016 after his collaboration with Drake, âOne Dance,â soared to number one in 15 countries, resulting in a multi-album deal with , which issued his Caribbean-influenced major-label debut, âSounds from the Other Sideâ, in 2017.
Balogun began his career in music when he was just 11 years old. His first record, Lil Prinz, was recorded in 2001 in collaboration with Glorious Five, a group consisting of Balogun and his friends from church.
In 2006, he started pursuing music full-time, at first collaborating with various Nigerian pop acts including OJB Jezreel, Naeto C, and Banky W By 2011, he was ready to record his debut studio album as a solo artist; Superstar was released by Empire Mates Entertainment to great critical and public acclaim across Africa, propelling Wizkid to stardom in his home country.
After multiple delays and label disagreements, he released his sophomore studio album, âAyoâ, in 2014. The record featured a multitude of guest appearances, including a spot from Femi Kuti . It also featured Balogunâs global breakthrough track âOjuelegba.â
Not only did the single cement his status as one of Nigeriaâs biggest pop acts, it was also picked up and remixed by and , thrusting Wizkid into the international spotlight. In return, he appeared on Drakeâs 2016 smash single âOne Dance.â
In March 2017, Wizkid signed a major deal with RCA and Sony International , which would release his third LP, âSounds from the Other Sideâ, later that year. A handful of singles appeared in advance of the album, including âSweet Loveâ and the Drake assisted âCome Closer.â
In October 2018, Wizkid issued a pair of singles, âMaster Grooveâ and âFever,â to mark Nigeriaâs Independence Day. The following year, he joined Beyonce and Saint Jhn for The Lion King: The Gift track âBrown Skin Girlâ and released his own single, âJoro.â
The EP âSoundman Vol.1â was issued by Balogunâs âStarboy Entertainmentâ imprint in 2019. Following his involvement in the successful protests to scrap Nigeriaâs controversial Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Wizkidâs fourth album, âMade in Lagosâ, arrived in October 2020.
In mid-2019, Wizkid was featured on BeyoncĂ©’s “Brown Skin Girl”, taken from the critically acclaimed The Lion King: The Gift soundtrack.
It was described as one of his “shining” moments of 2019, thanks to numerous nominations at major international awards, earning him two Soul Train Music Awards, a NAACP Image Award, a BET Awards, and his first Grammy Award, for Best Music Video.
Later that year, he also released the singles “Joro” and “Ghetto Love”.
On 6 December 2019, Wizkid’s label Starboy Entertainment released the EP Soundman Vol. 1, centering mainly on Wizkid, and containing features from Chronixx, and a variety of other artists.
During 2020, Wizkid featured on various singles, including “Escape” by Akon, “Gbese 2.0” with DJ Tunes and Spax, “Eve Bounce” by Yung L, and “Consider II” with Walshy Fire. He also released a collaboration with American singer, H.E.R., titled “Smile”.
On 17 September, Wizkid released the single “No Stress”, and announced that he would be releasing his fourth album, Made in Lagos, on 15 October 2020.
The album launch was later postponed due to the Nigerian End SARS protests nationwide, until 30 October 2020. Essence“, a single from the album, became the first Nigerian song to chart on the US Billboard Hot 100.
At the 27th annual South African Music Awards, Made in Lagos received a nomination for the Rest of Africa Award.
On 13 August 2021, he released a remix of “Essence”, featuring Canadian singer Justin Bieber.[80] The song became the highest-charting song on the Billboard Hot 100 by an African act, peaking at No. 11 on October 4, 2021.
In November 2021, at the 64th Annual Grammy Award, his album, Made in Lagos and his song “Essence” earned him two Grammy nominations.
In the same month, he also received four Soul Train Awards nominations, winning one for “Essence” for Best collaboration.
On the first anniversary of Made in Lagos, Wizkid announced his fifth album More Love Less Ego, originally set for release on the last day of the Made in Lagos tour, January 22, 2022.
In 2022, Wizkid will headline the Rolling Loud Toronto hip hop festival.
